Tried tectonics maps after some advice around here. I like the mountain ranges plus the hills. But what is with the ridiculous amounts of plains - I mean 15 to 1 plains to grasslands. And I havent seen ONE floodplain since I started them.

Am I missing something in the map setup?

well, not pretending to be an expert in map-creating algorythm , but it looks like the aridity level rolled high in your game - so few rivers, no floodplain, few grassland.
tectonics usually places grassland belts between jungle and desert, and between plains and tundra.
i'm pretty sure you will see lots of grassland if you check the "No ice" setting.
also as i remember the algorythms actually consideres any desert tile adjanced to a river as floodplain. So it's just bad luck that no rivers pass through deserts in your map.

I always check "No Ice"....But more importantly - I am talking a six map sample - all the same - no floodplains - in fact NO desert AT ALL - hardly if any tundra and ridiculous amounts of plains......No matter where I draw North/South/East/West......Plains for days with a few moutain ranges with hills and a few scattered grassland areas thrown in. Never can I get more than three cities on grassland tiles in any of these maps. and they would be in a strip lineup.

I was wondering if the No Ice setting was part of the problem.

I dont know.....weird

I've played those maps for a while, and I have realized if you want a whole range of tiles check "Normal" Aridity, my most recent game my civilization was born a place were practically all the tiles were grassland and was very close to floodplains and a (annoyingly) big desert. So it is possible and your choice of aridity seems to be the problem.

"Wet" worked well - much better - actually created fertile valleys between the mountains, etc. Seemed like a good choice from here on out for that map style.
