If you like the diplomacy aspect of civ then by all means get BNW. The ideologies not only break up the monotony of the end game but make the world congress much more interesting by creating voting blocks. Trade routes add some complexity throughout the game which is needed and the new cultural victory is in my opinion one of the most interesting vc ever in civ.
G&K and BNW are excellent additions to the game. Before they were released, the average game wasn't very different. It was research the same techs and build the same buildings by a certain point or else the AI will run away with the game. The expansions expand on so much that it adds a lot of variety to the game. Plus the additional Civs are fabulous.
So worth it, it makes things have real consequences, like you cant just launch a nuke at a civ and no civs caring. It adds loads of cool civs too, like Brazil, my new favorite civ. Definitely get it!
...give it a week or so before you give up...I found the move from GnK to BNW really tough. Lots more to think about, massive changes to tactics and VCs.
....seems like AI has been drastically improved though and nice additions like tourism and trade routes to get your head around.
