Test game for COTM115 Austria

???
If I make a diff between Più's PediaIcons file and the original, I find the following differences:

Okay, sorry - I have extracted the austrian named files out of the "Napoleon Scenario" to try out. But at last it doesn't work anyway.

And my version of C3C is still the German Deluxe Edition with two CD (= basic game with PTW plus Conquests). Got it from amazon or so...

Everything in the PediaIcon text (in three folders named PediaIcons) an the complete conquests.ini is in english. I can find translated parts only in the cevilopedia.txt.
When I'm using Piu's folder in conquests/conquests/art/text the game crashes immediatly.

When I'm using it within the conquests/art/text (first folder structure - not in PTW or Conquests), I can open the save but have no leaderhead: It's just a "Big Questionmark". The Cevilopedia in the game shows a text entry (in german!) for the "Husar" = "hussar".

But in the Testgame I can't build the hussar...

This should be "art", not "atr". I would guess that in some games, depending on the achieved victory condition, the game crashes when entering the victory screen... Più, can you correct that in your file?

This is very embarrassing. Sorry. I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

If you have problems with this and need a fix earlier, please just edit the file! It's just a text file.

Perhaps this is your problem: there is no "text" folder inside an "art" folder -- nowhere! The "text" folder is on the same level as the "art" folder. Did you create a "text" folder inside the "art" folder? That might explain, why the game can't find the modified PediaIcons file... Please see Più's instructions again:

The file must be placed in the <installation directory>\Conquests\Text directory, e.g. in my personal installation:

Code:
c:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Text\

(BTW: you always use "folder", when in fact you mean "file". That was quite confusing for me at first until I figured out what you really meant... Folder and file are two completely different things.)

I tried before, what you've quoted. But no succes.

But what about Piu's next hint:

It is prudent to first rename the original file and then copy the one provided here into the directory. The process is then reversible. This change to the installation must be made only once.

There is an original file. Why do you have none?

Why can't I upload any attatchment? Would be easier to explain what I'm talking about.

We're just two funny germans. Obviously there must be a difference. But every german should know what I meant :D

I too have an original file. Did I say otherwise?!

Anyway, I now tried to load the test game in my German installation. Strangely enough, the "settler" and "worker" units were no problem (perhaps because I still have those English-named folders from back then when I tried to make Age of Imperialism work on my PC in 2007? Ah yes, that's it.) But when I play a bit and then try to build a musket, I get the usual error:

attachment.php

That's because the musket animations are in a folder named "Musketier", while Più's PediaIcons refers to "Musketman", and apparently I hadn't bothered to create a duplicate "Musketman" folder back then, because that unit is not used in the AoI scenario.

I can easily create a PediaIcons.txt suitable for the German installation, but I don't want to use my original file as base for that, as I'm not sure what other modifications I have made to it over the years... You seem to have a still fresh installation. Can you attach your original PediaIcons.txt, and then I can merge the Austrian additions over to that file. (The Austrian leaderhead animations and the Hussar files have indeed not been translated in the German version of C3C, so they are the same in an English and a German PediaIcons.txt.)

PS: Attachments work the same way as on Civforum?!

Can you attach you original PediaIcons.txt, and then I can merge the Austrian additions over to that file.

PS: not necessary... By diffing against Più's version I verified I had no modifications in my PediaIcons.txt. (Except the usual Settler -> Siedler etc.) Here is now a PediaIcons.txt that works with a German installation.

BTW: while doing the modifications, I noticed, that the German C3C version has some bugs:
  • the "neutral" victory head for the Byzantines is Isabella instead of Theodora?! Copy&Paste error when they created the German version?
  • The files that came with C3C had not been translated, only the ones in Vanilla and PtW. For that reason the units that were updated in C3C (like the Destroyer or Stealth Bomber for example), do not use the new graphics in the German edition: they still use the Vanilla animations... (The updated C3C graphics came in a folder named "Destroyer", which has not been translated. The German PediaIcons.txt looks for a folder named "Zerstörer" and therefore only finds the one in the Vanilla subdirectory...) I guess nobody noticed this, when they tested the C3C addon... That means up to this date all users of non-English C3C editions have been using the old animations for about a dozen units!!
(Perhaps I should post these findings in the Creation&Customization forum...)

To play COTM115 in a German C3C installation: copy the attached file to ...\Conquests\Text, rename the original one in there to PediaIcons.bak or something and then rename the attached one to PediaIcons.txt

There are two typos:

#LOVED_RACE_AUSTRIA
atr\leaderheads\x2_Charles_V victory heart tiny.pcx

#HURTN_RACE_AUSTRIA
atr\leaderheads\x2_Charles_V victory beatup sm.pcx

This should be "art", not "atr". I would guess that in some games, depending on the achieved victory condition, the game crashes when entering the victory screen... Più, can you correct that in your file?

I have corrected this in the attachment to the Game Schedule 2015 - 2016 thread and updated the links in the test game thread and in the pre-game discussion thread.

I will now add the German version as well.

  • I noticed that. ;) Therefore I also noticed that the Austrian Leaderhead is something or someone whom I don't know and asked for him...:crazyeye:

To play COTM115 in a German C3C installation[/B]: copy the attached file to ...\Conquests\Text, rename the original one in there to PediaIcons.bak or something and then rename the attached one to PediaIcons.txt

So much work just for me...:eekdance: I really hope that it works know. But I can't test it till next week.

I'm sad to say that it doesn't work. No more idea about the reason. Different new uploads and so on didn't help - I started the testgame with lanzelots' modified "german" file but cant' build the hussar resp. the game crashed.

So, this cotm will be decided without my participation...:(
