A question

What do you all think of Test of Time?

I have the impression that most of the ciovcommunity dont like it very much and prefer civ2 multiplayer or civ2 Gold over Test of Time.

I believe that only Civ3 is better than Test of Time, although sometimes I doubt it cause of the multiplayer option which civ3 doesn't have (yet).

I am really wondering what you all have to say about this particular game and how you regard it in comparison with Civ3 and Civ2 mp and Gold.

Thanks

Well, I think most people who have tried it liked it. But most people don't have it and it is also much more complicated to make scenarios in (or at least that's my impression). I think that's it.

I think it is generally a good game, an improvement, but most games are designed for MGE and FW, and as said above, it's more complicated, so I still prefer MGE/FW.

I've never tried ToT,but it looks ok.I have Civ 2,which is now MGE,which I tend to play every night multiplayer.
The Multiplayer is undoubtedly the best feature added to Civ2,which I'm surprised wasn't added to Civ3 original.ToT does seem to be a bit of another cash in on the Civ2 license tho.

"But most people don't have it and it is also much more complicated to make scenarios in (or at least that's my impression). I think that's it." False !

ToT is better than MGE to make scenarios:
Compare to MGE
-Units have their own attack sound
-Units may have their own "nationality" without use obsolet tech
-ToT bmp files (units, icons...) allow 24 bit colors and units "box" are larger than MGE
And add that
-ToT use 3 differents terrain tiles for each terrain type (1 for MGE)
-Techs can be trade or not (for each civ)
-Techs can be research or not (for each civ)
-ToT may define bribery cost for each unit
-ToT allow impassable terrain
-ToT allow multimap (4 maps with their own terrain graphiks)
-ToT events have more options
-ToT allow 18 more units

ToT have less succes than MGE because ToT don't have mapeditor (Civ2 mapeditor can be use, or u can find patch to have Civ2 mapeditor for ToT) and because ToT was not compatible with Civ2 CiC/FW/MGE scenarios. (but u can use Angelo Scotto Civconverter to convert these scenarios to ToT compatible scenarios)

When i bought ToT (i wait it sell it as "budget" game: 15 €uros)
i was very surprise to see all these new possibilities ... but i was more surprise to find how it was easy to convert scenarios with Angelo Scotto's Civconverter.

I've convert most of my own Civ2 scenario and for some of them i use new possibilities (for sounds)

So my WW2 Scenario is undoubtly more interesting in ToT version than in MGE which i use the new possibility for the sounds + the 18 more units + nationality techs and units (and i change almost all graphisms)

The last scenario i make (just before i bought Civ3) was a Japan scenario... i only make a ToT version !

But what's that "terrain layer" thing they all talk about? It sounds complicated... :D

I have ToT, just never played it much...

Yup ToT greatly improves the scen-design but as insurgent said it's more or less complicated above all the whole thing with the new events (masks and such things). I tried it once but quit it very soon as in my opinion you need programming knowledge to understand and use it properly.

hmmm u can believe me, no need to have big progammers knowledge to understand the flags and masks new Events options

there's good guides in the Craddle of Civilization site !

and... u don't need to use it, if u find it too difficult !
u dont need to use all new options

It's really easiest to build a scenario for ToT than MGE !
it's just like MGE, but with tons of new options !

Hi, I've got ToT as well as MGE. I am having problems using CivMGE maps on ToT, everytime I try to use one of my maps it drops me right in the middle of the sea. Does anyone know whats going wrong?

Well I first started playing Civ2 using ToT. I borrowed it off a friend for long periods of time. I finally went out and bought Civ2 on budget line and I much prefer ToT. Nicer graphics for one thing. I will be getting Civ3 in a few weeks as soon as my repeats are over and I think I will write this Civ2 version off to experience and dump it.

????????Emplacements??????? It is one of my maps of the "Redtom collection" you can find it in the downloads section on Civfanatics.com website.

Yep, it does, and another thing it keeps on using MGE units from Civ IIMGE units file, its really bloody annoying, if i delete MGE it says the Civ II has performed an illegal function and crashes.
