Texas Civilization

wyrmshadow, i dont go there but i do plan to. i am a freshman in austin (westlake to be more exact) right now. but, both of my parents where in '76

Students at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University (A&M) are often referred to as aggies, as an abbreviation of Agricultural.

By doing this, residents of Texas (and others) avoid encountering the unfamiliar word "cultural" As in agri cultural. By saying aggie, you don't have to say cultural.

i think, though im not sure here, that an aggie stands for agriculture. it is texas agriculture and mechanics ( again an educated guess)

Howdy.

I have problems with that greeting, I want to say Howdie Doodie.

What are you driving that you can get from one end of Texas to the other in 12 hours? An F16? If you go from Lousiana to New Mexico, and I recomend you go the other way, its about 3 days. Maybe you were going from Oklahoma to the Gulf.

I don't want to get into Aggie Jokes, they are mostly like "little moron" jokes, why did he thow the butter out the window, he wanted to see a butterfly. But the one I remember best is the Aggie Library had to close because someone stole their book.

Texas has lots of culture, they bought it at that big Dallas Department Store. The one where you can get his and her submarines for Christmas.

I think the saying goes, Texas is heaven for men and dogs and hell for women and horses. However, I believe it was Mark Twain who said, If I owned Hell and Texas, I would live in Hell and rent out Texas.

We like it just fine. As for the women, Texas grows the pretties girls in the nation, California manufactures them on an assembly line. 12 hours buy the way most Texans drive, because real men don't stop for anything. Now, exactly how many Aggies have you actually met hmmmm??? Guaranteed your opinions would change as soon as you did. Now what's so great about Seatle? When was the last time you saw the sun for more than two consecutive days?

I can't chat any more tonite. I have Aggie Muster to get ready for.

So, Texans have difficulty saying cultural (just like George Bush can't say nuclear), or are they just being Texans?

whoa, 4 posts in 2 minutes! think about it tho. would you call yourself an "agriculture" "go get em agricultures!" we had to shorten it to something.

We were first the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. We changed to a full fledged University in the early 70's.

Now barron is what we here call a T-sip, (an affection we usually reserve for students at the University of Texas) because he'd rather be sippin' tea like a sissy than being a real man doing some real work. No I'm not flaming, I'm just poking, I've heard plenty of Aggie jokes and just as many Polack jokes. I used to tell all sort of Aggie Jokes when I was a kid until I acutally found out what it means to be an Aggie.

As for a UU, Texas Ranger would be good but we can't use the bandit graphic because the Ranger's had Colt Peacemakers, usually not rifles.

Yes I would shorten it to something, but not 'Aggies'. That's to easy for the other universities to make fun of. (Think 'em up yourself people 'cause I ain't gonna be foul!)

It rains all the time in Seattle, don't come here, you will rust.

We don't miss our shortstop, please keep the quarter billion dollar man.

All women are wonderful. Texas sun is harder on their complection than the rain here.

I have not met any aggies, to the best of my knowledge and belief. I imagine a university where everyone has to go to ROTC is very polite and well groomed, or at least has short hair. Do they let girls in, too? Male only colleges have reputations for hard drinking, because there is so little else to do.

I don't much care for tea, but diet cola is very welcome. I suppose Aggies drink Scotch? When I was in the army, I had to drink Scotch, group pressure, although before 10 am you could have a bloody mary on the theory you were hungover. Beer was acceptable on picnics and when the O club had nickle beer night.

I am assuming Lieutenants and Lietenants to be have not changed.

Thank you for proving my point that you know nothing of what an Aggie is. We WERE an all male military college 35 years ago, but that has changed. And we are not MERELY an ROTC program. Texas A&M has 47,000+ students of all walks of life, only 2,000 are a part of the military student body, of which I am a proud member (and have an Air Force Contract)

As for the women, Texas can claim more Miss USA than any other state I imagine.

You stick a Texan in any other state in the union and they'll complain about how mild everything is.

Now I really must leave for Aggie Muster. Look it up.

oops, nearly doubled the post because the server was busy

Well, firstly I've seen some pretty ugly Miss Americas in my day (I don't know if any are from Texas) and not all the beautiful women in our country chose to show off their bodies on that sexist pagent (REPRESENT! [dance]), but I will agree with you that most southern girls I see are cute :D.

As for mild...well, I'd like to see a Texan picked up in an airplane and drop down in Alaska call that mild, or Minesota, or any other state where it's really cold. I had my grandparents from South Carolina come up to DC once, during the winter, and they said it was cold! But then again, I don't know many Texans, and apparently, neither does the Barron of Ideas. :D

With respect, although I was quite young at the time, I did live in El Paso. As long as Fort Bliss is considered part of El Paso.

However, there is a line of thought that considers El Paso to be part of New Mexico. This thought is resisted fiercely by residents of El Paso. And nearly as fiecely by residents of New Mexico.

It can get quite cold in Texas. In winter, the only thing between the North pole and Texas is a few stands of barb wire.

Of course Texas women are beautiful.

What Miss America pageant are you watching that does not have beautiful contestants?

THe part of Minesota climate that would not be familiar to the average Texan is the Mud season. Taxans are familiar with Mosquito season, and snow season. And, although Seattle is famous for rain, there is no rain like a Texas Gullywasher. No-one I know has drowned in a Washington stream bed. Texans die evey year in Arroyos that fill with water in a few seconds in a Texas Rain.

I forgot, who originally requested a Texas Civ, and how far do they want to extend the timeline to? Possibly maybe the Battleship Texas?

how was muster? i couldnt go this year, but i usually do. for all of those who dont know what muster iss ( buncah insensitive bastards) its when the "people" of A&M gather to commemorate those that have died in the last year. they have a roll coll of all of those who have passed away. theres also bbq ;)

I'm a senior and this was my first Muster at A&M. I've had to be elsewhere representing the school in the previous years. When the lights went out in Reed Arena and the candles were lit, the thing that got me steemed was all the poeple that brough camera's decided at that time to start blazing away with their flash cameras. But it was good and deeply moving.

ill bet it was really nice in the reed arena. those people need to get some respect though. man! anyways, can someone PLEASE make a texas civ. ive been reduced to begging. it doesnt have to be elaborate. just spend about as much time as th PTW civs, which would be what, 2 days, maybe 3.
