I am playing as China on a Monarch level game.

It was getting to that first crunch time of the game. Most of the good places to settle had been taken. I managed to have a couple areas of land that while not inside my borders were entirely part of China. This meant that I was watching my borders each and every turn waiting for that spearman and his buddy the settler come to visit.

During this mass expansion time, Korea and myself managed to intermix some of our cities in the NW of China. This marked them for as my number one target for war ;)

Now the timeline:

The Vikings come to me demanding the newest tech in the world, writing. I had never seen a viking unit, had no idea how far away they were but I had guess they were south of me past the Mongols. I told them to get stuffed. They declared war on me. Using my knewly found pen and paper I got the Mongols on board to the war and from then on I never saw a Viking unit except for when my scouting warrior went looking for them.

Five or so turns later a group of Indian and Spanish troops set foot on my soil. Each with settlers. Make or break it time. I told them both to remove their troops or go to war. The indians retreated the Spanish decided it was worth a war.

Spain was actually right beside my eastern most spur of cities. These were my newest cities and the weakest I owned. I had little troops in this area. I knew it was not a war I could win. I was also a bit paranoid that already being in two wars would cause someone else to pile on. I talked to everyone in the area including Korea and managed to get everyone on board the war vs the Vikings and the Spanish. I managed to get a group of horsement down to the Spanish front lines in time to take on city and destroy another before the armies of 5 other nations impacted the side of Spain. Once my meager forces in this area had done their job, I brought them back into China proper and started building and building military for Opertation Korea. The MA and RoP expired and I didnt renew.

I then spent the next little while trying to talk everyone in the area into starting a fight with me vs Korea. I was currently at peace with Korea, but I was wandering around to everyone asking them what they would want for a war with Korea. I had the map making tech which no one hand, a few luxuries that each civ needed, a bucket load of cash on hand a fat per turn income. No one would help me with Korea.

Each and every turn Korea would enter my soil, I would tell them to take a hike. They did for about 10 or 12 turns. I think that this time the Koreans were still at war with the Vikings and the fastest route to them was through my soil. I was about to give up on this and just hold my breath, go for Monarchy and use the free unit boost of Monarchy to expand my army and go alone against Korea. Then it happened. They declared war when I asked them to leave.

Right away I went to all of our neighbours and again chatted with them. EVERYONE of them was willing to now go to war against Korea with me. Not only were they willing but they went cheap! I got four civs on board with the fight. Two fo them requiring map making ( I had just finished the lighthouse ) and a luxury, the other two just needed map making.

Looks like asking for help in war that you "didnt" start is easier than asking for someone to help you start a war.

Very very interesting :)
