The AI waging War

I've noticed recently that when the AI goes to war it seems to only attack one target.

Example: playing as the Greeks I ended up at war with the Babylonians and I noticed that their forces seemed to be targeting Sparta.

I got the Romans to declare war on Babylon and suddenly they switched and sent their army to POmpii, leaving me in the clear to attack them - I couldn't believe it!!!

Over and over, in the games I've played the AI uses this same strategy - attacking one target. Sometimes that target will change (if you capture one of their cities for example) but usually it's so predictable that warfare gets rather dull and easy.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does the AI actually have any other strategies? (especially ones which work)

I have seen them swarm my whole border, esp the Egyptians. I had a line of fortresses on a mountain chain, and they swarmed it. Needless to say, they all died, but it still proves my point.

Actually, this is one of the flaws in AI strategies that was "fixed"

What version are you using?

I have still seen it in 1.21f though.

Just one word: Enjoy! :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

There were posts about this recently. The AI loves to send a gigantic stack at you instead of invading from several places to keep you guessing. One huge stack is easier to defend against than an invasion that leaves the human guessing as to its true objective. It just shows how simplistic the AI was.

I have abused this feature again and again, and it didn't get any better in 1.21.

Consider my typical beachhead strategy: land a HUGE load of defenders + 1 settler on a hill on the enemy coast, build a city and watch them loose all their attackers and most Riflemen/Infantry/Mech Inf. against it...... Rush Barrakcs or airport asap. AI=dead! :D

Same if they have a war on a different continent: send over a settler. Build a city on newly opened land (i.e. land that's freed by the taking/razing of a city. This city will be the only thing the AIs from that continent will attack in any future war. Stack defenders - and enjoy!

hm.just found out you're right.
I just found 2 civs waging war against eachother on my territory, and they were pouring in stack after stack of troops.Outcome: Oh well they did not get anywhere, as their offensive units all sucked, but war wearines overwhelmed them and a peace treaty was signed...meanwhile...I got a slight tech lead...:D

Oh...and several turns later, a HUGE stack of troops entered my territory again. 10% of the invading force, made it across my territory, and declared war on my neighbour...this campaigning became tiresome for me, so I put some units on the border...blocking the passage to my neighbour...next turn...PEACE...:D

it is unfortunate that the AI is too artificial to be intelligent
well...it is intelligent, but cannot be compared to the human brain...oh well
