...So I've gotten back into doing faction graphics after quite a few months off, and I could use some input on the only project I hadn't wrapped up when I dropped out.

I don't remember whose idea it was originally, but the thought was to accomodate MP players who'd like the leader portrait to reflect their own gender. Unlike the Alt. Official Project, where the idea was to make splinter factions, slightly altered in color so that they could be played alongside the originals, nothing else of substance was to be changed. These are substitute art for the likes of guys who like to play the Data Angels

I do recall that it was DarkCloud who threw the pictures for Gaian and Believer leaders at me. The results were congenial- Brother Marvin of the Believers, especially, came out with an arresting look.

CEO Marifa Morgan of the Morganites was my own work, done recently from a photo of Maya Angelou. All three complete faction graphics are freshly posted on my Custom Factions Page.

I'm giving priority to making male versions of the women, observing the lamentable tendancy of gamers to be male, but any women browsing this are more than welcome to play. I'd like to do all 11 of the human leaders, leaving the aliens and Cha Dawn as being of no particular gender.

So what I'm asking for is pictures of people who have something of the same qualities as the official leaderheads, only of the opposite gender. If you can even give me ideas of where to look for pictures of a someone who, for instance, looks a bit like Colonel Santiago- the same sort of age, attitude and ethnicity, only male, I'd be greatful, and credit you. Don't worry about the clothes at this point; I'll try to at least make what they're wearing look not especially contemporary and paste the result over the original's background. Name suggestions, preferably as close to the original as possible, are welcome, too.

(Dan, find me a picture of Tyson Beckford wearing a mic headset, willya? You'll be glad you did...)

Anybody you know working on a patch to increase the number of Factions in the game? When you play on a huge map of Planet, as I do, there is a lot of unused territory. I would like to have the option to play with up to 13 factions in the game. Anyone know of a mod to do that?

Well, Sinder Roze is gender neutral-sounding, (and probably a made-up user handle,) so I see no need to come up with something simular...

(Aki Zeta 7 of the Cybernetic Conciousness is all who's left of the women, BTW, and I think what to look for is a thin pale guy with a long nose, pointed face, and a distant look in his eyes. Find a younger, better-looking, nordic version of the actor who played Agent Smith and Elrond, and you've nailed it. Aki is hardly a Borg; she barely has any machine parts showing, and if we find a good candidate, I may be able to paste in hers....)

I started a random game today in the folder where I dumped my alternate gender files and happened to discover that the Morgan bases were in a blue box- something that hasn't happened to me for a long time. I've fixed it now, and the .zip on the factions page has been updated. That's what I get for not playtesting everything before I post.

A less serious problem, but one that annoys me to no end, is that some of the in-game references refer to faction leaders using the old gender pronoun, (for example, Lord Daniel is still "she"). I changed everything I could find in the faction files-- can someone tell me of somewhere else that has those gender designations for the official factions??

Nevermind. I found the problem- it's those capital "M"s or "F"s in the first line of the text file. They mean just what you think they do. I've fixed all of them and updated the .zip files on the faction page.
