The Benefits of Liberating a Civ?

What are benefits of liberating a civ (not a city-state)? I'm playing with diplomatic victory disabled, so a UN vote isn't a benefit in my case.

Thanks in advance

big diplomatic boost

That tingly feeling when you do something good? To be honest, unless you don't want the city, likely not worth it. You get a diplo boost, but he can still denounce you down the line if you don't vibe with him too much.

Could act as a distraction/buffer for the Civ that conquered them initially.

Could also be a trading partner. Of the ones I've resuscitated, none of them lasted long enough to have the resources to do RA's. Will add that all three were on the same map and were dealing with powerful neighbors.

In Vanilla it just seemed to get me denounced by that very same civ within 5 turns. I take it that's been fixed?

/Should wipe out any lingering negative modifiers as well as giving a big positive diplomacy boost, imo.

A guaranteed vote at the UN, and a heartful ally.

The only specific benefits is there is a very large positive diplomatic boost, plus a Civ must give its U.N. vote to its most recent liberator.

It's a lot better now than previously; they are much more likely to become friendly, ask for DoF, become a research pact buddy, trading partner, etc.

If you are capturing cities but don't have a lot of happiness to spare, liberating as well as gifting the liberated civ a few conquered cities can get you an ally for a long time.

If you're going domination you can always liberate a non-capitol city (if they had one) if you capture it first

No denouncements for me either on any of the liberated Civs. Three times they even let my troops stay within their borders. The fourth time I liberated (same Civ twice) I got the "you're in my borders" message.

They do tend to be friendly, but if they've been out of the game for any significant amount of time, they're usually so weak that the other AIs just see them as easy prey.
Kind of frustrating to liberate an AI, become friends with it, just to see your other friend attack and annihilate them in no time.
So unless you're prepared to act as their protector for a long time, or to gift them lots of units so they can defend themselves, liberating an AI is usually not worth the hassle in my humble opinion...

The next step needs to be taken: the world needs to recognize your wars of liberation....you should get bonuses with everyone, especially is in a war you take nothing for yourself, yet liberate a CS or two and a Civ.

I also liberate when I don't want to take a happiness hit from annexing or puppeting the city. Same as puppeting and gifting it to an AI for the same reason
