Ok, enough codes, enough strategies, enough cheats. I want to know who YOU think the best civilization is and why. Let's find out once and for all who the best of the best is. Remember, there are two O's in goose, boys.

I am personally a fan of the Aztecs. If you are going for a war-based win, the jaguar warrior is supreme in the beginning. Attack early, and attack hard, and the Aztecs will lead you to victory.

The English are the best. Nothing can beat the Man O War as a unique unit. English win on Diety every time.

I have to agree with sappling, and I don't see how anybody else could possibly argue. Once a handful of Man'o'Wars hit the seas, it's pretty much game over. There is nothing these puppies can't do, and even a fleet of Frigates should run for the nearest port once they spot one on the horizon.

All kidding aside , I'd have to say that the Persians are the best civ in the game. The industrious trait is the strongest in the game when properly managed, scientific is not great but it does give bronze working to start, which leaves Persia only one tech away from iron working and the best UU in the game, the Immortal. An immortal rush is so devastatingly powerful that CivFanatics stopped allowing those tiny map Deity victories in their Hall of Fame. The industrious and scientific traits allow Persia to either warmonger or peacefully develop with ease. The slowness of the Immortal is compensated for by the fast speed of roads built by Industrious workers. I am convinced that Persia is the best civ, which is why I never play as them (it would be too easy). :D

Japanese are best because Samurais are eternal: Maybe you don'y know it, but Japanese tank drivers are Samurais, you planes are controlled by Samurais, nfantry are Samurais with rifles...The world is ruled by Samurais:D .

Samurais rule, the rest is all scum :king:

I like the Persians Immortals are great, and I like the Industrious and Scientific parts of them too. Scientific is good at beginning of eras and alows you to trade you newly discover tech for lots of money.

Ive found the most sucess with the babylonians, scientific and Religious are a powerful combination. The speed that you can build temples and cathedrals is staggering, as with libraries. I find once I drop the culture bomb, the people flock to me.

However, the babylonian UU sucks

I totally vote for the Chinese. Great UU (the Riders are not only effective but also well timed for Golden Ages), and as a military civ, you get cheap barracks and (perhaps more important IMO!) cheap harbors! Most important of all (for me) is INDUSTRIOUS. LOVE those fast workers!! Finally, you take out of play (by being them) an opponent that is dangerous. (I like to often play random enemies. Hate it when I get Aztec, Zulu, German, Babylonian, Persian, and Chinese as my opponents, as I once did ... that game was TOUGH! At least the French weren't too bad as the last ones!)

OTOH, I dislike having Mao as my leader, and tend to change the civ name to Siam, the leader title to "The Mighty " and leader name to "Aiko" ... my siamese cats name! But I leave all the other civ characterics the same. I do use other archrtechtural styles when controlling the building of my leaders Palace.

Rome. I never use anybody but Romans. They have good UU and also, this might sound stupid, but I think everyone else but Caesar look wierd.
