We have many threads about the overall top 10 cities, and more on actual civ specific strategies. What I would like this thread to be is a combination: debate on the best city cites for each individual civ.

If I may begin:

GERMANY
Frankfurt: Between Pig and Iron
Danzig: 2N of wheat, 2 W of horse
Budapest: 1S of deer
Reval: 1N of cow, 2S of western coast of Finland
Fustindorf: Basically Kiev, between Deer and wheat.

Here's a screeny:

Everyone knows Germany. I always founded those, too.

As Egypt, you go 1N for Wheat. Second city is built where Tobruk is, to take Clams and Fish. You don't need any more cities for the UHV.

As Babylon, you can go 1NE to Assur for Wheat and Copper, but then you forego your UHV.

As India I went with Delhi, a city on the hill next to the Elephant, and Cochin.

As Greeks, you found Athens, Byzantion and Apolonia for the Copper. You then conquer Babylon, raze the towns that will flip to the arabs and maybe keep one of the formerly barbarian towns in Anatolia.

As Rome, you found only one city in Italy, Antium on the Pigs. This way, you can sail to Greece (and conquer it) without having to move through Carthaginian lands. The other settlers are sent to Spain for ~Lisboa and Valencia. Don't waste expensive settlers on France or other areas, build only one for Londinium to get the UHV.

As French, you found Paris and Mayence after razing Frankfurt. The other cities are pre-placed.

Where do you place your cities as British?

In NA: New Orleans 1 north of the fish spot, Chicago 1 south of lake Michigan and Denver on the oil. These three cities are super powerful for almost any civilization.

Also, if you want a super, super large city, build it on the horse ;)

Quickly take the good German land, Rome and Constantinopel. Lulea in Scandinavia is also a very good city. I didn't take control of Frankfurt, but that could also be an option.

And for the Siberian cities, I gave them away because they will be a drain on your economy and stability. You should be very careful since stability is an important factor for such a big empire.

Definitely go for Corinth on the marble and Ilium 1 SE of Byzantion. The food and production are insane. As for the third city, I'm unsure whether to settle on the bronze for quick hammers or 1 N for pigs and generally better spot. I try to rush Egypt with initial units (hopefully a Huluganni in there) and keep Niwt-Rst and burn anything else. As for the Fertile Crescent, keep Babylon, Shush and Yerushalim, burn Kalhu/Ninua for sure and Sur unless going for UHV. In Anatolia I keep Ankyra (actually decent city and with the setup in the area it works well) and settle on the iron. This I question and am open to alternate suggestions.

Persia is tricky, if the Independents get Zoroastrianism I'm tempted to raze all the Persian cities. Sirajis on Ivory and Artacoana on Horses are great, compared to the typical Parsa and Pura. Is this a good idea? Parsa is also a great city, not requiring any settlers or large stability hits.

Rome is good as is.

Most of those points only apply to DoC, not vanilla RFC. In vanilla, it's not as good of an idea to settle on resources because then you do not get the improvement bonus like you do in DoC.

Oh dear this is true, my mistake. I thought this was in the DoC forum for whatever reason. Still, Corinth, Ilium and 1N of copper is my preferred way to settle the first three cities, even in vanilla.

I wouldn't go for Asia Minor as Greek second city. It would insta-flip to the turks, iirc. Shush would flip to the Arabs, afaik.

Yeah. You could also take those cities as France, Rome, Spain, Greece, Vikings, England... :goodjob:

This thread is about where to settle as certain civs. Preferably within their stability-map-allowed area.
