The Combat Formula

I try strategy, but usually get ticked at myself for stupid decisions then I also just gang up on the other fellow.

Of course I know about production shields and that kind of stuff.

BUT... I will NEVER, and I said will NEVER want to calculate the chances of my units to win a battle. I always have a full-war strategy ready to be used, and I always count on luck to win certain battles. And I always have a Plan B, in case some of my units lose their battles. Most of the time, I send cheap units to died in human wave attacks, just to keep the enemy busy while I send my mais army on his flanks. And when my main army arrives at enemy lands, I have at least 2 plans - if one fails, I use the other.

And that's the fun of Civ 2 to me: creating plans and testing them. Sometimes my units fail, sometimes not - the fun is to deal with unpredicted losses.

That's what I was trying to say in my last post.

I cannot say that it creeps me out but for me it seems to defeat the purpose...I play civilizations to relax. Granted all people's brains work differently and perhaps there are some who find the creation of formulas relaxing. If you are one all the more power to you. I will continue to play as I always have, by the seat of my pants ;)

When it comes to Combat Formulas, the one I use the most:

Howitzer Attacks = Unit Destroyed

It's one area of the game that I keep pretty simple. ;)

Spy + Gold = shinny new howitizer in my army.

Do you just go straight for conquest then? I always get every tech/improvement and THEN build a massive army to crush my foes, otherwide it's jsut boring.

Hhhmmm, i'm pretty starved...
What's that?
Let's eat it :ninja:
Hmmm, it tastes wierd... :vomit:

I have one: 300 cammels + several ships + a fair number of turns = Howitizer vs. Pikemen

BTW, the combat formula doesn't take into account the fact that a unit with 3hp or more can destroy a 1hp unit with one hit, unless I'm mistaken.

The number of hit points doesn't affect how much damage is done to the opposing unit, the firepower does.

Yes, I know, but whenever a modern ship attacked a pregunpowder unit, as far as I can remember it always destroyed it in one hit.
