The cossacks conversion collection

The cavalry is not complety made. The storyboard using true color bmp is done. Now Smoking Mirror has to define a nice palette and make the FLC.
I need about one hour and a half to make a unit, and there are 35 of them IIRC.

I'm a little slow doing the conversions, so if anyone has a good graphics program and a talent for graphics perhaps you could help speed up the process, (basicly I'm realy busy, the actual conversion only takes about 20 miniutes) by asking steph to provide you with the storyboard. I'm going to continue cracking away at them, but any help would be well recieved.

I have paintshop and photoshop, and can help, but I have no idea how, so if you send me the steps I'll be more then glad to help do this

Same copyright issue, this musketer is a standard unit of Art of War, an expansion pack

yes but they don't have a copyright on the actual uniform of prussia from the early to mid 18th century, same with saxony, i belive that stuff is public domain now...
(i guess i was basically asking if you would do that unit seperate from this, since prussia would need that unit as it was a major force on the european scene)

To all volunteers : it's not very complicated.

I do all the boring copy & paste part, to produce a true color bmp storyboard (one for each animation).

You then have to create a nice palette that can:
- Respect original colors to the best possible extent (beware of civ colors!)
- Be compliant with Civ III and Flicster (ie 256 colors palettes, with correct indexes for shadows, etc).

Then you can either finish the unit and make the FLC with Flicster, or send me back the palette or the new 256 colors storyboard, and I will finish it.

All volunteers, send me a email here : stephane.f.david@free.fr

I will send the storyboard by mail (there are about 1.5 Mb for a unit). It's useless to clutter this thread with "working files"

Its not too difficult to do, If you have the capacity to make custom palettes, all you need to do is colour replace the background of the story board to a colour not used in the figure (you could keep the original green colour for instance, but if the figure has any green clothing, then it will become shadows or smoke). Then convert the storyboard to a civ compatible one (with blue as the civ colour).

Then create a flickster storyboard with the right number of frames (you will have to count them) of animation, at the right cell size (you will have to mesure one of the cells, or Steph can tell you.
You need one of these for each animation (some animations have different numbers of frames and frame sizes you have to be carefull not to mix them up). Then save the modified cossacks storybard over this flickster storboard as a .PCX image and finaly export it as a flick.

Most of this should be familiar to any one who has made a multi unit.

on the right is what the storyboard looks like to start with. On the left is how you will hav to make it look.

And here is what an apropriate pallete would look like. You would have to make some adjustments for each unit.

Just one question Steph: There's not possibly some kind of "Spanish Pike" or "Spanish Musket" too?

The pikes are almost done. Then I'll start 17c musketer.

I will make Arab, French, Swedish, English, and Venetian in that order.

You should have a lot of them ready by the end of the Week end.

cool, but I was really talking about the 18c guys.

Looking forward to them all, though. :)

Yes Steph, something like that, though I'd need the Pike more badly as a replacement for the Spanish Conquistador which must be -though I don't own PTW myself - the most aweful UU of all. The Pike would be the Spanish "Tercio" then, the most successful Spanish military formation in history.
