The demo is just 1 fixed map!

I can play as Egypt, Greece and Persia (choose the latter for my first go).

I found England and a bunch of City States before needing to get back to work ;P Didn't bother to save, I messed up quite a bit. Next time I'm going as Greece so I have more bang for the buck with those CSs. Sucked to lose Friendly status after just 5 turns, when I needed 20 to get my first gifted unit. I tried gifting a Scout but it only got me 2 influence (seriously?), that was a bad move :D

I'm a bit disappointed that it's just one map.. I mean, it's ok to play only on Continents, but not even a map generator? Oh well, the 23rd can't come soon enough now.

heh, it's good to see that companion cavalry are just as powerful as I thought they'd be. I was able to quickly sweep across the whole continent with them, finished off the last AI (ceaser) on turn 95. Now if only I had more turns to get to the other continent ><.

You need to remember that some of us already bought the game but need the demo to preserve sanity until Friday.

Well if you already bought the game, maybe you should have moved to North America. Since you decided not to move, you will just have to wait till Friday.

Maybe next time to save yourself 3 days, move to Mexico, US or Canada.

Everyone chill out.

The Demo for Final Frontier was also like this. I got to play it like 20 times before I actually got Beyond the Sword, and I'm not dead yet, so I guess you'll all be just fine.

It's 100 turns. How many turns do you need to get a sense of what the game is like?

More then a hundred.

By the time I had created my first city and my first worker almost 20 turns had passed.

That's almost 20% of the whole demo.......

By the time the demo ended, I only had 2 cities, 2 army units, 3 worker units and a lot of farms for my capitals plus 2 or 3 tile improvements for my (small) second city and I had just barely entered the classical era in spite of having more techs then most of the AI players.

I don't think it would have been all that unreasonable to give the player something like 300 turns to invest into each demo game to be honest.

This might go against the general grain, but I've actually quite enjoyed the limited time aspect of the demo. Playing lots of short games has made me prioritise different concepts and the fact it's always the same starting position gives a good basis for comparison.

So as it stands, I played through 100 turns of
  • just getting a feel for the new mechanics
  • currying the favour of the CSs as much as possible
  • going for for all-out military conquest
  • REXing as much as possible
etc.

I found this very interesting; the enforced short timeframe made me think about the effectiveness of my moves a lot more than I usually would in the early game (where I tend to get sloppy), and as mentioned before gave a definite grounds for comparing and contrasting each focus against the others.

Given that it's only three days (two now), I don't foresee myself running out of things to try and getting bored of the demo before then. After all, "when a man is tired of Londonthe first few turns, he's tired of lifeCiv!" ;)
