:egypt: The Egyptian Quiz :egypt:

Seeing as there is a lot of interest in the Egyptian civilisation I thought that I might start a quiz thread based only on the Egyptians and their related topics.
It can be about anything what so ever within the time period of Narmer (Nemes 3000bc) to Cleopatra.

Rules
Same as in the other ones, whoever gets the question right asks the next one, if it doesn't get answered within 48 hours then it is open to anyone to ask.

Wait for answer to be confirmed by questioner, before popping your own, next question. - XIII

I'll start it off with an real easy one.

Who's name means "the glory of Aten"
:egypt:

I'm not feeling horribly creative today...someone else can go.

If not, I'll come back and ask something later.

Men-Nefer :)

Now I've got a question :); Did eygypt ever control an area of europe, and if so what area was it, and under which dynasty?

Macedonia and Thrace, Macedonian dynasty (Alexander)

I'm not sure if Alexander can be said to be an Egyptian ruler. It was more Macedonia ruling Egypt than vice versa.

However, the Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled from Egypt, did rule Thrace and many parts of Greece (mostly islands, but some mainland areas) under Ptolemy I.

SeleucsNicator got it right, Alexander cant count as;
A) he wasnt egyptian
B)He didnt have a dynasty

B)He didnt have a dynasty

May I prove this fact as wrong (not in relation of Egypt, but generally); Alexander was part of the Argead dynasty.

In any case, I disagree with Lefty. OK, Alexander was crowned Pharaoh, but since he wasn't Egyptian, he only resided in Egypt for a few months, and Egypt had no special position in the empire (despite what Alexanders appearance there might suggest), and it is not even very likely that Alexandria was founded to be Alexanders capital, it is simply unfair to claim that Egypt ruled parts of Europe under Alexander. Likewise, you could also say that the Persian Great Kings (at least Cambyses II and Darius the Great, who were crowned as Pharaohs) were Egyptian rulers, and that under their rule, Egypt controlled parts of Europe (Thrace, Macedonia, Thessaly, half of the Aegean); this is simply wrong.

Guys, pls get back to Mongoloid Cow's question. Thanks.

Xen, next time pls wait for your answer to be confirmed before putting up your own.

sorry then Mongoloid Cow :(

any way, Alander DIDN'T have a dynasty to rule over EGYPT, therefore, since he had no heir(who came to power anyway) he dosent count

White Walls in Egyptian is Men-Nefer or Memfi (Memfi being the third name). I'll leave it another day and if no one gets it then I'll give the answer and then anyone can ask the next question.

The original name for Memphis was Ineb-hedj which is translated as "white walls" or "White fortress".
It was later given the name Men-nefer which means "established and Beautiful".

The very first name of memphis is; Het-ka-Ptah which means-"House of the Soul of Ptah" this is because the cod Ptah is/was the creator god of memphis, and so the first name of the city was after its(and the worlds) creator god. This name also was used throught its history as an unofficial name for the city
