The Evils of Dihydrogen Monoxide

Wow... Well while it was certainly biased, it does show that some people just don't think... at all. Remember that one video when they went around asking what presidential candidate they supported, then asked if they though the other candidate's VP was a good pick? (I.E., if they said they supported McCain, they would ask if they agreed with McCain's decision to chose Biden as his running mate) Everyone said yes...

But yeah, talk about sheep mentality. Besides, don't they teach you what Dihydrogen Monoxide is in high school chemistry?

Sheesh guys

Wiki said:
Under the 2005 revisions of IUPAC nomenclature of inorganic chemistry, there is no single correct name for every compound.

And
Literally, the term "dihydrogen monoxide" means "two hydrogen, one oxygen", consistent with its molecular formula...
Water has a regular scientific or systematic name of hydrogen oxide, as well as an alkali name of hydrogen hydroxide and several acid names such as hydroxic acid, hydroxylic acid, and hydroxilic acid...
So we're all right!

The point is, a lot of people are stupid.

Still, good times...

About 3 years ago, a radio station in my area started their show with a warning that there was "Dihydric Monoxide' in the citys water system. The whole broadcast was people calling in with concerns and others calling about the material is corrosive and being used in nuclear reactors....

I havn't laughed so hard in my life because I knew what they were talking about..... That and it was April 1st.

:rotfl:

AHHHHH I love it so much!!!

Spoiler :
#DHMO is an "enabling component" of acid rain -- in the absence of sufficient quantities of DHMO, acid rain is not a problem.

# Measurable levels of DHMO have been verified in ice samples taken from both the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps.

# Recent massive DHMO exposures have lead to the loss of life and destruction of property in California, the Mid-West, the Philippines, and a number of islands in the Caribbean, to name just a few.

# Research has shown that significant levels of DHMO were found in the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 which killed 230,000 in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and elsewhere, making it the deadliest tsunami in recorded history.

# It is widely believed that the levee failures, flooding and the widespread destruction resulting from Hurricane Katrina along the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005 were caused or exacerbated by excessive DHMO levels found in the Gulf of Mexico, along with other contributing factors.

That's simply beautiful!!

Of course, no thread about DHMO is complete wihout a link to dhmo.org.

:rotfl: Uh-ho... I think I produces some DHMO in my pants. That was the funniest thing I read in months. Someone put a lot of time and effort into that site.
