Since the Console Game Thread got nothing accomplished (besides the "mild" bickering of consoles and knowing how many people have Wind Waker) I guess that thread was too specific. So here's the Gamecube thread. Not much to say, except how excited are people about Nintendo's lineup for E3? Three racing games (Mario Kart, F-Zero, Kirby's Air-Ride), Pikimin 2 (hopefully it will be more of a success than the first), and Advance Wars 2 (for GBA). I also hear that on the back cover of the May issue for Nintendo Power there is a silouette of an Adult Link with realistic graphics (for all those who hate the cel-shading) and more surprises at E3. I also hear Miyamoto's going to have a new franchise. Any thoughts? Or am I just talking to myself here?

EDIT: Anyone who has a Gamboy Advance can discuss that here also. :)

I'm thinking of getting an X-Box. :p One of my friends has a Gamecube, and I don't like it all that much. It seems to have even worse graphics than the Dreamcast (maybe it's just my imagination, though), and I don't like the controller all that much.

BLASPHEMY!

Nintendo has put out some quality games for the Gamecube, but they are few and far between. I remain heavily rooted in my belief that all three of the current nextgens thoroughly and totally suck. If offered any of the nextgens or a Sega Saturn (arguably one of, if not the worst console(s) in gaming history), I would say the Saturn without hesitance.

Graphics aren't everything. Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, and Zelda: the Wind Waker are all excellent displays of the 'Cube's power, but most games fail to utilize this and sink into mediocre gameplay. Super Mario Sunshine, which I have completed from start to finish, has beautiful graphics but sinks into tedious gameplay (1 to 10, I give it a 6). Nintendo has failed to come out with any substantial efforts that are not flagship titles, and I say that the Dreamcast offers a lot more for a lot less...You can buy a Dreamcast, Jet Grind Radio, and Shenmue (all used) for the price of ONE GC game at ebgames.com. JGR scored a 9.6 and Shenmue a 9.7 at IGN; both are quality games, and I reccomend them to anyone.

Maybe I'm just a Sega fanboy, but I don't think that the current generation of consoles has provided anything more than lackluster, with a few exceptions. I have played all of these games, and are the only ones I would reccomend for the systems:

PS2 - Grand Theft Auto 3
Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta (ironically, a Sega game).
Gamecube - Zelda: the Wind Waker

Beyond this, it's hard to find anything worth the $50 you'll have to fork over for a new game.

Okay Toasty, maybe the next-gen consoles are getting worst. But Gamecube is the last chance for some of the better Dreamcast games to see the light of day again. A lot of Dreamcast games are being ported to the Gamecube (a few to the Xbox too, but not so much). Ikaruga comes to mind, and Sonic Adventure DX is coming in June. Also there's Skies of Arcadia, and Phantasy Star Online Episodes I-III. I know Xbox has Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II and a bunch of SEGA sports, but that's about it. So GCN would have the most to offer for SEGA fans. :)

@Willj
It's probably only your imagination. Dreamcast's graphics are about the same as PS2. GCN's is better, Xbox has best. But yeah, not so much potential can be easily seen at a glance, especially since Wind Waker's Cel-shading makes it look more primitive. But pay attention to the details (particularly water, Nintendo's specialty) and it's amazing. :)

Hmm. . well, for me, I like the GC. I've got 007 Agent under fire, and I keep playing that game. My kids play Godzilla Melee, and Madden 2002, Mario Sunshine.

It's very arcadeish, but to me that's the appeal. I don't need graphics like Grand Turismo 3, where it can be tough to tell if it's animated or not.

Yeah, I like the GC, and will continue to buy games for it. I am going to have to break down and get Zelda, too. But then I haven't played Zelda since the SNES days. . .

Sega games are the only motivation I have to buy any of the current nextgens :D.

Just the same, the consoles of this generation are by far the worst exchange of value I have seen, less the 3DO. I think that the launch price of $299 is insanity, and I still can't be convinced to spend $149 on any of these systems, much less $199.

My PSX and my Dreamcast offer me a lot more for a lot less.

Looks like some non-GCN fans have infiltrated the thread ;) Come on, this is (I assume) for GCN-specific discussion. If you want to dish out some "Sega/Sony/XBox is better" HSO's, take it to the Console Games thread. I'll agree with Silverflame about that thread accomplishing nothing, besides illustrating how partisan this industry is.

No Zelda since LttP? What a shame, missing 'Ocarina.' You should definately get back in. 'Windwaker' isn't the best Zelda, but would still score high on a "Top 50+" list.

I've never played OOT
My N64 got stolen within a month and never got another one. :( I never knew about the Zelda series until I was getting tired of Pokemon and checked out my other gameboy game, Links Awakening DX. Since Zelda never appears in that game, it's easy to imagine how confused I was ;) Later I played the Oracles and I have LttP w/Four Swords for my GBA but stopped soon after I got my gamecube, I'll start playing that again once I finish Wind Waker.
Since I missed out on the bonus disk I'll try borrowing an N64 and Ocarina from a friend. Maybe even Majora's Mask at the same time...

Well, I just beat Wind Waker. Yeah, yeah, I know I spent a long time but I got around 14 hearts and the most tedious part of the Nintendo Gallery filled (All those people at Windfall and Outset). I didn't mark all the squares but I might do that on my second quest. Second quest I'm going for the complete gallery for sure.

Absoluetly, that's why I didn't rush it. :D

I'm really wishing Pikmin 2 comes off well. Pikmin was such a great game, and even with its "kiddy" appearence (*cough*fanboys*cough*) it was a great RTS, and one of the only real ones on a console.

Here's to hoping its LONGER (;)) and that it has more Pikmin! :D

Pikmin doesn't really lend itself well to a sequel. I could see a follow up (like Secret of Mana-Secret of Evermore). Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how it was improved, and also how the other guy seen with Olimar in the previews will be controlled (MP only, or some new control scheme?).
BTW, how did the original sell? Is there anyplace I could get game sales figures?

I was wondering, do any of you guys have a Gameboy Advance? I've got three games (Metroid Fusion, Super Mario Advance, Loz: LttP w/Four Swords) the GBA/GCN cable and (hopefully) a freeloader for my Gameboy Player.
Seeing how Nintendo's strength lies in the portable market, I'm assuming there should be a lot of Gameboy owners out there.

I personally think that's there no point in getting the "newest" game system because initially you don't know whether it'll be suck or be great - and the games that come with it. Besides that I have an infinite supply of any game I want that I can download for my PC.

[Edit: will post a transparent Gamecube later - bad job]

Yeah, I have a Gameboy Advance SP, and I really like it. The only game I have so far is Sonic Advance (which I'm close to finishing, but the last chaos emerald special stage is freakin' hard, and so is the last boss), and currently I have a borrowed game: NHL Hitz 2003.

The original Pikmin sold pretty badly, at least compared to games like Metroid Prime and Zelda. However, it really was a great game, and got rave review just about everywhere. It was just the format and idea were a little to "weird" or "kiddy" for most "mainstream" gamers to buy.

BTW, does anyone have Splinter Cell for Gamecube? I heard the graphics are a little bit worse than Xbox, but that the actual gameplay has been improved. From what I've played on Xbox, I want that game badly! :D

Uh, the whole Gamecube is too kiddy for people to buy, mostly because some guy decided to launch it in purple. From what I heard, Luigi's Mansion sold badly as well. And I think Metroid Prime didn't even sell a million yet in the US because it was overshadowed by GTA. Wind Waker's doing GREAT in Europe though :)

The thing I liked about the Gamecube by just playing it at Best Buy was the fact that the controller was just the right size. It fit comfortably in my hands.
