This is a gigamap game, inspired by the one sn00py started. I had a vote in the chatroom, and Byzantine ended up winning as the civ of choice (decided by a RNG script). Since Byzantine was already done, I decided to test my skills at modding the game a bit. I'm using TETurkhan's world map, modified for C3C. Some of the changes are: marshes, land feature changes (I tried to make Rome and England a bit bigger, and made Ireland connect by one tile so that the Celts would hopefully have SOME chance), and I took out the roads that were in the plain map. Most of the barb huts and forts were taken out (I missed a few). Since Sn00py was already doing Byzantine on an alternate world (Marla's), I added in Cataphracts. Yes, Xen was in the room. ;) But, I would have given them Cataphracts in a 2UU mod anyway. Here's the stats:

Cataphracts:
Tech Needed: Chivalry
Resources: Iron, Horses
A/D/M: 5/3/2
Cost: 80

They were origanally 3/4/2, and 70 shields, but 5/3/2 and 80 was suggested).

Another thing to note about the map is, that I have NO idea what TETurkhan set the OCN to be. :) But, I think it's kind of high (40? 45?). Corruption isn't too bad yet (I'm further along than what I'm showing you.) But, I kind of like it this way, since you really can't know in real life.

I also started this game on regent - way below my level of play, but here's why:

1. I don't have the best computer in the world. Emperor games and up take forever on my computer. This was the major reason.

2. I didn't want a lot of micromanagement (micromanaging with around 30 civs is a lot!). If I played at emperor, demigod, or deity, then it would probably take 1 turn per day (or less!), which goes back to reason 1.

3. I wanted a nice, relaxing game for a story, and I wanted to try and mimic the tech pace of the real world. It was a toss up between Regent and Monarch.

Anyway, on with the story!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The First Millenium

Theodora sat on the shores of the lake with the hot, sandy winds comeing from the south. A storm was brewing again in the Black Sea. Theodora knew her people longed for calm, and the raids from the southeast were only increasing the hunger. So, on the shores of the lake, with a storm to her back, Theodora commanded to the village elders that had gathered around her, Here, we shall build a grand city! From here, we shall control the tempest and troubles that our people face! But first, we need brave warriors to venture out and stop the current raids on our lands.". "But", said one of the elders, "How can we when we have such little to work with?". Theodora replied, "See those fields to the northeast, and the forests to the south? We have those to work with, and with those, we can make an army to stop the raids".

Within the year, Constantinople was founded. Workers were sent west to mine the stone quarries to make weapons for the troops. The first band of warriors were also built.

In 3750BC, these troops met the first of the raiders, the Ottomans, who claimed Constantinople as their rightful place. For the first time, Theodora's people saw magestic mountains and hills. Also for the first time, Theodora's people would be free from the raids. Negotiations went on for 100 years (people sure live a long time, don't they?)....

The Ottomans still refused to acknowledge the Byzantines as the rightful owner of the land, and word soon traveled back to Constantinople. The people heard of the many natural wonders beyond their lake, and wanted the land for themselves. They had also learned of Masonry from the Ottomans - their only gift. With this, better homes could be built rather than the thatches of hay and twigs. The band of warriors were instructed to take the city, and raze it to the ground. A settling party would be commisioned to occupy the sites near the mountain. The art of Masonry was now a secret of the Byzantines.

With the raiders gone, the warriors were sent to explore the land to the southwest. They had heard stories of great rivers, and desert that was full of food. The next civilization they met were the Hittites. They were friendlier than the Ottomans, and had a pleasent surprise. Just as farmers were questioning just what was in the clammy soil in the land they just conquered, the Hittites gave the knowledge of how to make Pottery, 10 gold, and burial rituals for those in power. In return, the knowledge of masonry was given.

In the meanwhile, a 2nd group of warriors were sent to the northwest. In 3350BC, they met Greece, then saw Rome. Rome was on the other side of a small sea, but the warriors could see small rafts for fishing. Contact would be made soon.

In 3150BC, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers were being explored. The warriors apparently overstayed their welcome, and were escorted several tiles south of the Euphrates on orders of Hammurabi. There, they met an Arabian scout. They also found several luxuries - wines, and incense. Theodora's people have never tasted, or smelled these resources, and word travelled back quickly. The people always wanted a better life, and now they long for the wines and incense, just as they had longed for the barbarian raids to stop.

personally, i cant wait for the creamy cataphract goodness that is sure to come later ;)

The next millenium approached, and Theodora wasn't the one to be the most optimistic about the surrounding terrain. Sure she wanted a better life for her people, but how will a bunch of grassland and forest help? There was an ace up Theodora's sleeve - The Suez Canal. This would effectively cut off Egypt from the rest of the world. After all, it's a future conquest region. So, what glory does the first conquer get? Continental Gaurd duty! A message was dispatched to the warrior captain, who had just finished surveying Mespotamia.

Messanger: Sir! I've come from the home village with a message!
Captain: What it is?
Messanger: You and your troops are to report to the recently found landbridge, blocking Egypt and-
Captain: GAURD DUTY!? WHO GAVE THAT ORDER!!!
Messanger: Sorry sir, but it's orders from Theodora herself! Here is the seal!

The Captain inspected the clay hardened seal, which is only presented in official meetings from palace.

Captain: I see...
Messanger: Sir, there is a settling party headed south to found a new city. The city will be named in your honor, Adrian!

In 2430BC, the 1st settler group was ready to claim new lands, and headed south. This village was named Adrianople. In the capital, stone quarries were in full operation, and farmlands were constructed on the southern plains. The hills were soon to be mined as well.

Meanwhile, messangers from the west exploration team came from a land called Europe, telling of more tribes - the Dutch, Germany, France, Spain, and Portugal. Theodora could see that the land would be used up rather quickly, so expansion, with what little productive land that was available, would have to be agressive. Theodora vowed not to let anyone step in her way. Her people of Constantinople would have the protection of surrounding cities.

This millenium prooved to be quite uneventful, as there was little food and production to grow. This fueled Theodora's thirst for fertile land. A third settler party was commisioned to block the growth of the Greeks. The stories of Greek incense and wines were starting to echo in the ears of the people, and they were getting restless.

A short time later, this settler party would found Caesera, and would essentially block Greece. What lay in these forests and hills? Only time will tell... But, Theodora was curious about one thing. Just WHO are the Aztecs and Iroquois? The confused history adivsor just didn't have an answer...

I like it Cheiftess keep on going I havnt played Byzantine yet.

Just to note, this story is still ongoing. I've been having problems with the file upload link, so I haven't been able to upload new screenshots...

how did you get TETurkhan's world map on conquest with the units/

TETurkhan's map came with PTW. The scenario uses units from the game, but I only added one unit (a little cumbersome, but not too hard).

wait its still on ptw, but your are playing on Conquest?

I bought PTW a year ago. :) (I wrote in my first post - ...modified for C3C.) anyway, back to the story...

Does this mean that you are getting into the modding world? You would then be a double modder - moderator and modifier! lol!

Please keep the story going. :)
