This is a gigamap game, inspired by the one sn00py started. I had a vote in the chatroom, and Byzantine ended up winning as the civ of choice (decided by a RNG script). Since Byzantine was already done, I decided to test my skills at modding the game a bit. I'm using TETurkhan's world map, modified for C3C. Some of the changes are: marshes, land feature changes (I tried to make Rome and England a bit bigger, and made Ireland connect by one tile so that the Celts would hopefully have SOME chance), and I took out the roads that were in the plain map. Most of the barb huts and forts were taken out (I missed a few). Since Sn00py was already doing Byzantine on an alternate world (Marla's), I added in Cataphracts. Yes, Xen was in the room.
But, I would have given them Cataphracts in a 2UU mod anyway. Here's the stats:
Cataphracts:
Tech Needed: Chivalry
Resources: Iron, Horses
A/D/M: 5/3/2
Cost: 80
They were origanally 3/4/2, and 70 shields, but 5/3/2 and 80 was suggested).
Another thing to note about the map is, that I have NO idea what TETurkhan set the OCN to be.
But, I think it's kind of high (40? 45?). Corruption isn't too bad yet (I'm further along than what I'm showing you.) But, I kind of like it this way, since you really can't know in real life.
I also started this game on regent - way below my level of play, but here's why:
1. I don't have the best computer in the world. Emperor games and up take forever on my computer. This was the major reason.
2. I didn't want a lot of micromanagement (micromanaging with around 30 civs is a lot!). If I played at emperor, demigod, or deity, then it would probably take 1 turn per day (or less!), which goes back to reason 1.
3. I wanted a nice, relaxing game for a story, and I wanted to try and mimic the tech pace of the real world. It was a toss up between Regent and Monarch.
Anyway, on with the story!

The First Millenium
Theodora sat on the shores of the lake with the hot, sandy winds comeing from the south. A storm was brewing again in the Black Sea. Theodora knew her people longed for calm, and the raids from the southeast were only increasing the hunger. So, on the shores of the lake, with a storm to her back, Theodora commanded to the village elders that had gathered around her, Here, we shall build a grand city! From here, we shall control the tempest and troubles that our people face! But first, we need brave warriors to venture out and stop the current raids on our lands.". "But", said one of the elders, "How can we when we have such little to work with?". Theodora replied, "See those fields to the northeast, and the forests to the south? We have those to work with, and with those, we can make an army to stop the raids".
Within the year, Constantinople was founded. Workers were sent west to mine the stone quarries to make weapons for the troops. The first band of warriors were also built.
In 3750BC, these troops met the first of the raiders, the Ottomans, who claimed Constantinople as their rightful place. For the first time, Theodora's people saw magestic mountains and hills. Also for the first time, Theodora's people would be free from the raids. Negotiations went on for 100 years (people sure live a long time, don't they?)....
The Ottomans still refused to acknowledge the Byzantines as the rightful owner of the land, and word soon traveled back to Constantinople. The people heard of the many natural wonders beyond their lake, and wanted the land for themselves. They had also learned of Masonry from the Ottomans - their only gift. With this, better homes could be built rather than the thatches of hay and twigs. The band of warriors were instructed to take the city, and raze it to the ground. A settling party would be commisioned to occupy the sites near the mountain. The art of Masonry was now a secret of the Byzantines.
