When Civ 4 came out I was very disappointed with the graphics and just couldn't get into the game as I felt the transition to 3D felt amateurish and uninspiring compared to the gorgeous 2D of Civ 3.
I haven't played Civ for years, but just bought Civ 5 after trying the demo and it's beautiful! Sure there are a few graphics issues, but compared to the incoherent, plastic like feel of Civ 4 the scenery is immersive and captivating. The detail on max zoom at the normal setting is smooth and natural, and the colours are just right.
This is what I was hoping Civ 4 would have looked like, so I'm very pleased!
On top of that the gameplay and strategy is vastly improved, the game feels much deeper and more flexible now with real choices to make. Here's waiting for the play by email option!
