The Histographic Challange

That's a marginal decision for me, because the 4200-something game can potentially become very good but you will really regret a sub-4300 later when you finally submit your game and get placed among the Huge/Emperor games. Milking always makes you pay later. I would play out both games to see how you fare in the long run (up through the early ADs). You might as well.

As stated in my HOF thread, I am about to start a Huge Emperor Histo game soon.

Now I have to decide between a map with a lower domination limit (like 4250), but a better start (like four cattle), or a map with just one cattle, but a domination limit of 4456.

What would be better? More population earlier due to more food, or the milking phase with more citizens in total? What do you guys think?

As I see it, with all other things being equal, an increase of 100 tiles in the domination limit could increase score by at most around 2,100 points: 100 points for extra territory, 200 points for 100 extra happy citizens, and 100 points for 100 more specialists for 400 more points per turn. At Sid level, that gets multiplied by 8 so you can get 3200 extra points per turn through the milking phase. I would say on the harder levels, it would be absolutely phenomenal to reach the domination limit 1/3 of the way through the game (turn 180, 650 AD), so the extra domination tiles only matter for 2/3 of the turns. Does that seem right?

If you can believe me, then on emperor level, the extra 200 domination tiles will be worth about 1300 points if you reach domination around 1790 AD and 2700 points if you reach domination around 650 AD. When do you think you can reach domination on huge emperor?

So the extra 200 tiles are worth around 2800 points to you - I think the higher domination limit is going to be worth more to you than the quick start in that case.

Thanks for the information. As I am not going to have time to play till tomorrow evening, I can wait and hope for THE map for this game :)

Next Challange is coming up soon!

Hello! :wavey: Challenge #4 is:

Mapsize: Small
Difficulty:Emperor

Please have all entries in by April 15th, 2009.

As per suggestion, they will now coincide with the regular HoF updates and the next will be announced with the April update. Good luck! :salute:

Sorry, no entries received.

I'll announce another, sometime.

Does anyone want to start our own sequence of histographic challenges, sort of like how we now make suggestions for the gauntlet ourselves?

I probably don't have time to play many histographic games, but I'm willing to give it a shot, as long as the map isn't too big and the level isn't too high. (Huge and Sid won't fit in my life right now.
