Hey so I've been finding it hard playing The Huns on King difficulty since the new update (When they used to capture Barbs with normal units was the last time I played).. I can't seem to find any up to date guides so I was wondering if people had some tips for early game warfare with The Huns? I used to faceroll the enemy with extra Barbarian units at the start of the game but I can't do that anymore.. I've thought about only keeping one city and rush to spearmen/archers for early puppet captures but again, I don't feel as thought it's worth it.. By the time you get there unique unit the enemy has walls and it seems impossible to capture anything to be worth while.. any advice? Cheers

Beeline for your UU, essentially. Skirmishers are already an incredibly dominant unit, and the Huns get them with an extra 15% base CS/RCS and Accuracy I + the promotion you'll get building them in a barracks city. My usual plan is Animal Husbandry, Pottery, The Wheel, Military Theory, Trapping/Mining if needed, Mathematics. Once you get Military Theory build Horsemen if possible in any city that already has Monument/Shrine, and then a bunch of Horse Archers and maybe a couple of Catapults if needed. Then go to town since your Horse Archers are unbeatable until the next line of military units comes out.

Hmm, interesting reply. I just did a game there on continents/king and at the very start I rushed towards Mathamatics. I managed to wipe Gandhi completely and take half of the xontient but then struggled half way up the map to Songahai once he got swordsmen (It was only 3 of us on the contient). I don't know if The Huns are worth playing now when you have The Legion as Rome and a much better UA than The Huns..

I didn't feel as though the rush was worth it and that I could of easily done it without the UU with anybody else.. I used to love when they had the capture ability to Barbs, yeah they have it now with horsemen but it was awesome when you could get a team of Barbs day 1 using Ancient era Warriors! Do you feel like they got nerfed or do you prefer the new UA?

Horse archers are so much stronger than legions and have a much better position in the tech tree.

Interesting.. I'd like to hear some more tactics including what you guys do after capturing early cities, raze and rebuild? Puppet even if there pretty crappy (since early game)? I'm pretty inexperienced and love the huns, cheers.

Annex pretty much always, unless you have big happiness problems. Early on annexing a city with just a shrine and a council can make a big difference. Annex + lock growth will long term usually give less unhappiness than puppeting will. Razing is an option if the land sucks/ you have happiness issues. I think this is just warmongers in general, not Huns specific, I wouldn't call myself an expert but you could watch this game - https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...-17-deity-standard-size-speed-pangaea.648165/

Its a little sad that the huns don't get units from barbarian camps =(. Still, the captured unit from horseman is still really strong. So...
If you want to war early, the general idea is to build a horseman, try to capture/(try not to build) as many different units as possible, and build terracotta army. make sure to build catapults, horse archers, and chariot archers before completing terracotta though. the burst of units is enough to make walls not a problem. Aiming for completing all this by around t80 at standard speed while expanding as much as you can is a good thing to try.
ekis will make all the cities great, so annexing is generally the way to go.

Very helpful tips, cheers! Also @ Kawyua I looked at your video of the Huns on Deity with the new update (finally a video of it) but found it hard to follow as a newer player with the top down 2D map view... any chance you could make a new playthrough without that view sometime? Be awesome!
