The Impossible Walkthrough

Philosophy discovered. Time to get our Ankor Wat out. Now priests will do double ownage. But first… time to switch civics. We are still going to stay in slavery. Why? Because it’s cheap, and because we can rush anything in an emergency, including wonders. But we ARE going to run Pacifism. It’s perfect here because we don’t have large armies yet.

Which beings up another issue. I’ve seen people running pacifism with such large stacks of units about warmongering. That’s just a bad move. Pacifism is an expensive civic with armies to maintain. Always be thinking.. is it worth it? The answere in that case is obviously no.

740 AD. Look at Ghandi. Can you believe that with just 2 cities, we are still in the tech lead against him? And he’s right off the charts according to the game. He’s got a lot of smallish weak techs, but not the big guns. I’m going to do him a favour here, and hope he builds the court houses in time before I take his cities.

And I think I may have added another specialist since then…:P

fig20.jpg

And in the same turn.. I might as well give the same to Wang. Looks like highway robbery doesn’t it? Well yes, but it’s alright. I want stables to pump out higher promoted horses soon. And we need archery for horsearchers. While our special unit doesn’t need archery, we are going to get it anyway. Because our plan is to drop science money to zero, and use it to upgrade our horses to cav when the time comes. And horse archers are cheaper (though still EXPENSIVE) to upgrade to cav than are the starting horse units for Egypt leaders.

Lets see what Ragnar has? Damn, he doens’t want to trade, and he’s behind, but just doesn’t know it yet. And the fact that I was handing out techs to these guys earlier in the game… tut-tut-tut.

Anyhow, 330? That will cover the cost of ONE horse-arch to cavalry upgrade. So away we go, he can have the useless literature. We already took the great library generations ago.

Ok, I just got backstabbed lol. For some reason, my trade deal with Ragnar caused him to declare war on me. I feel so backstabbed considering I was generous to him earlier in the game I thought.

He moved a catapult up to me, which I killed instantly.. Where ever his main army is, he’s still far away from my capital, it doesn’t look like a SNEAK attack at all. Just one of those super weak, almost FAKE-WAR attacks. I just don’t understand this… Anyway, time to check out….

820 AD. A bit late, but we’ll finally make a trade to Wang to pick up Ironworking. We really don’t need this tech, that’s why I’ve been avoiding it so long. But just incase we get iron pop up close to the capital, we can gain even more hammer production then. This is really the main reason, lol.

Geeze, Ghandi STILL hasn’t picked up Philosophy yet, or even civil service. This is definitely not an emperor game. There is no chance in hell he is going to beat us to liberalism. But we’ll do him some favours here, as I want to pick up a little bit of gold.

Ok this is so weird. I didn’t even notice before but, Wang was a FRIENDLY vassel of Ghandi (or was that the other way around?). And I guess that is why Ragnar went after me instead. Well, suddenly now, Wang broke away from his vassalage of Ghandi, and decides to dogpile ontop of Ragnar before his main army had even reached me. And further strangeness, is he managed to even drag his old master into the war too. Rare indeed…

fig26.jpg

Wang is pleased because of our war effort. That’s funy, because I want no part of it really (not just yet). But stupid Ragnar won’t even talk to me, and he’s getting his ass kicked all over the place. Any human would be jumping at the opportunity to talk peace with me.

I normally don’t like trading techs before liberalism with stuff like paper as these are vital to the liberalism race. But since I’ve got such a big tech lead here, I can afford to let them get a little bit closer, and still take my time if I need. And what the hell, I’ll pick up two more upgrades worth for horse-archers to cavalary.

1050 AD. Getting very, very close to where the fun will start. You can look at the super specialists now in my city. Notice that with only 4 priests we are getting 20 gold each round, free. And of course the 8 hammers are wonderful too. The beakers are an ok bonus, thanks to rep. And keep in mind, these are only base values. These have not yet been filtered through the bonus boosters yet.

Another thing we are doing is building the university of Sankor now. Even without a single brick of stone this is a quick job for us. And with only 2 cities we don’t really need it, but if we can deny a much larger city on another continent from getting it…. Then we’ve still hurt him. The power of a well managed city at work…

fig28.jpg

1060 AD We are still at war here. I was going to bribe ghandi to make peace. But he wanted about 2 grand gold for it. Sorry Ghandi, we can afford it, but I have better use for that gold soon. Instead, I decided to do a regular trade to pick up some cash. We don’t really care about drama that much here, it’s just icing on the cake.

1090 AD. Ok, this guy is a crazy lunatic. He is so far behind in tech… He is getting his ass kicked and booted from one city to the next.. and yet…. He STILL thinks he can win this thing against the three of us? Anyway, just to make peace (though I really have no need to except for happiness issues,) I’ll give him a bit of gold. Maybe he can buy himself a unit with that and defend himself.

1160 AD, one turn till liberalism. It is now, that I am willing to give Ghandi education. It is a very expensive piece, but he wants a very expensive price in order for me to get him to make peace with Ragnar. I’m going to do it NOW so he doesn’t vassalize the whole continent on me. While I’m giving him a huge favour here, he wont be able to use it to win the liberalism race on me. Even if he has something in reserve this turn to lightbulb and steal liberalism… it won’t work because the turn order goes to me before him next round. Sorry Ghandi, but it’s impossible for you to win this race. I’ll let you catch up a little, but you’re going to be left in the dust again by next turn.

BTW, and thanks for the music. It’s just what the cavalry Bee-Line ordered…

Oh, and by the way, we also gave the same thing to Wang so he’d make peace with Ragnar. The poor little guy barely has a single city left by now.

Well, as planned, we got liberalism and now we pulled lightyears ahead of everyone again..We took nationalism as our free tech (it was the most expensive too), and now we’re off to military tradition. I always save gunpowder for last, muskets are pretty useless anyway. But there’s always that chance some AI gets a tech jump on muskets and we can trade for it to get a faster jump on cavalry. It won’t happen here, but it’s a trick to get used to for when you step up to Emperor.

Now here is a dilemma. I am so ahead that I have a chance to build the Notra-Damn? But I also want to build the golden-age machiner-bobber machine. So now what? Well, yes golden age doesn’t mean much to us with only 2 cities, but if we can deny a huge civ from getting it, we are hurting him. After some debate, I decided go head for the golden age first. Now yes, this can wait as it will take a long time for the AI to catch up to us and then build the damn thing. So postponing the NotraDamn may be the only risk. But the way I look at it is this… building the golden age device, will in turn let us build the Notre damn faster if I sequence it that way. So what the hell, I decided to give it a shot.

And here we are… Taj Mahal built, and look at our production. Notra Dam is coming online pretty steady…Look at the power of those hammers at work.

fig32.jpg

Funny thing, Ghandi asked to offer me feudalism for nationalism and 800 of gold. Is he on CRACK? Yes he is, because he’s an AI player. Or maybe he knows he’ll be needing nationalism soon. Guess he sensed I was getting ready.

Anyhow, here is a shot of our whole empire. Just one small sister city, and one giant power-house. For those who don’t think one super city can compete with many weaker ones.. just watch and observe. We’ll get there.

fig33.jpg

Wow, are we going to get our ass kicked or what? According to this ACCURATE power graph, we are about to get our Holy asses kicked right off the continent. Even Ragnar the pup has us dominated. Oh well, time to test my flawed strategy out…

fig34.jpg

Now you see a big stack of useless, outdated, and poor horsearches…

Spoiler :
fig35.jpg

(Obsolete now presses the instant upgrade button).

Ok, and now you don’t….

Ok, I took out two border cities, and now I will attempt to pillage and thrust forward more. By the way, I forgot to check the power graph again after upgrading those horses. Lets take a look now shall we?

fig36.jpg

Woah… Just anther reason why you can’t rely on power graphs for accurate info. In fact, I’m pretty sure right now our power is higher than Ghandy’s. It’s still not reading right!

Alright, attack, pillage, attack pillage. The most advanced unit I ever came across from Ghandi were knights. Though there was maybe a couple muskets about. And as we all know, muskets suck.

That bastard… built sooo many freiken cottages. It was like some prince level newbie came along and starting playing. Such a horrible system, especially for Ghandi’s traits. But so be it, he gave us ridiculous amounts of gold by letting us pillage all of them. Well, I missed a few, there were just so many. But my war ended rather late. I just couldn’t keep up with nerfing all the cottages first, which was stalling a lot of my advancement.

But alas…. He FINALLY agreed to capitulate. Any human would have been jumping at the opportunity to capit before then, but it’s the AI. It’s stupid…

I wonder… what that power graph would be saying about his situation now….

I was tempted to finish the bugger off, but figured what the hell, I’ll be kind. Though his own people should have killed him. How do you lose such a large empire to only a 2-city civilization? Well, I guess now you know…

Oh one last thing. How the hell did Ghandi get democracy? I think he lightbulbed something. But that’s a waste, and we know it. He will never be able to use that tech in time for the liberty statue. I know because I’m going to get it. In fact, I’m going to tech after it myself, and STILL build it before he does. My super city isn’t one to be trifled with.

Spoiler :
fig37.jpg

Alright, I declared war on Wang, and took a couple cities, etc. Funy thing is, the power graph was all wrong again. It started surpassing me and showing Wang as the world leader in power. Why? Because he has rifles now. The system doesn’t yet understand, Cav are not nerfed by rifles as much as is thought to be. At least not by the AI’s stupid war planning. Though Wang is lucky to have rifles at all right now, cause I had been nice to him earlier.

And despite the powergraph telling me I was in for a rough time… it doesn’t take long for this familiar screen to show…

Spoiler :
fig39.jpg

Another internal of my super city. You can see the absorbed specialists. Also notice how I’m working on statue of liberty. Poor Ghandi will be so sad when he sees I stole it from him… There is absolutely no chance in hell an AI could dream of competing with that.
