For those lucky enough to have Civ3C already, a few questions

1) How did they put the Mongol Horde into the Middle ages scenario?

2) Can you play the Byzantine empire in the Middle ages scenario?

Assuming the answer to 2 is Yes

3) Xen where you able to reclaim the Byzantine empire

4) How bads the Black death?

5) Can someone post the tech tree for the Byzantines in the Middle ages scenario?

Thanks!

1)As barbarians, though the Mongol civ is left in the rules so that it can be modded in the scenario.
2)Yes.

The other questions, I can't help with

hmm thats a pity

Ive thought of a way for the Mongels to be put in as a Civilization.

Do the following

Give them a city on the far eastern edge of the map give it a population of 10.

Techs: Theres only one tech for the Mongels "Horde" and its really expensive so expensive it will take them until the 1200 AD to research it.

Diplomacy: you make them at war with everybody

you put a couple of ridculously high defence units in there city so they cant be conquerored say 5 units with 99 for defence and no movement that stops other ivs from bumping them off.

The one tech the mogels can research gives them a wonder which funbctions like the Knights Templar wonder ie once built the Mongels get a free unit every couple of turns

You give them one King so if hes killed the Mongel civilization collpses.....

Hmm but Ill have to wait till friday when the game comes out
:(

No that sucks Im sorry :-p

on a more serious and less offensive note, it goes against the general flavour of the middle ages scenario.

1)already answerd- they have been made into VERY numerous barbarians

2)YES! :D

3)this is the Byzantine start position-

and this is a screen shot of what I had two turns before a point victory-

so yes, I was fairlly successful, butr I plan to have another go soon- that conquest is my favorite :)

4)dont know, never got there ;)

5)
Byzant_tech_tree.jpg

well, there it is, the Byzantine have a stande alone tech tree for the first age, after that its other "specialty" tech trees, as weel as the "standard tech tree"- the one that actually advances you to the next era... I happen to be in the third, and final era ;)

Nice screen shots, Xen.

I just got the game last night (Amazon preorder with super-saver shipping) and I played the Middle Ages first for about an hour. I chose the English. I immediately went about destroying the Celts because they are way too close. Here's a couple questions:
The rules say that the English start with the Western Church tech. I don't see that as so. Does it only start when you reach that tech age?

Also, I realize I need to return the grail to Jerusalem. This might sound silly, but do I need to conquer Jerusalem to return it? I assume so, but it's not expressly said.

I really can't decide how to play this one best. Ally with the other Christians? Expand my empire through France to the Med, then try to control Jerusalem when I can more easily bring forces to bear? Make a voyage into the Med with the only objective of getting the grail victory points? It seems it would be extraordinarily dangerous to put the grail on such a journey. Perhaps that's where it is today, on the bottom of the sea. (I'm not looking for advice. Since I can't play now, I'm 'stuck' pondering my strategy. Feel free to discuss what you would do though. )

Other than the your favourite Cavlary what other units does Byzantine get?

Also how did you deal with the Crusaders? Did you grant them Right of Passage?

Yes, you will get it when you switch eras for free.

You will have to get it onto that tile to get the points. The most likely way is to capture it. There is a chance that it might be razed and that's okay too. It is a VP space so there is likely to be a defender in the tile in any case.

-the Byzantine get the the Dromon as a UU (along with the Bulgars, who are those green guys- I STRONGLLY suggest taking them out as soon as you can- that means war from the very start- there cites, as you can see from my secong territorial screen shot, can grow large, anr in very nice areas- perfecr for pumping out troops to take on every one else)

they also share the cataphract with the Bulgars, and the Keiven Rus

0crusaders? HA!- I conqoured Italy, and was on my way on to conqouring the Franks when my Game ended- I was teh crusader here- crusadeing to restore the Roman empire in full;)

I also made sure that the crusaders would HAVE to go to war with me to get the relics into Jerusalme, for as you can see, i control the city ;)- besides, the Abbasids are another group that you should take out anyway

Trying to recreate the great Justinian empire, Xen ? :D
I don't think that it's really a coincidence if your territories at the end of the game match so closely the ones of the Byzantine Empire at it's apogee ^^

it gives you a better aprecieation of Belisarius', narses', and Liberius' triumphs to expand the Byzantine empire for Justinian... the game fits its self well to have the Byzantine empire xpand in those territories as well, though I had to colonise Sicilly,Crete,Sardinia, and Cyprus myself, and a good thing too! other wise those damn vikings would have tried to weasel in...

Yes, you're right, TLC :)

But Firaxis isn't reputed for its firm grasp on history ^^
There is several little details that are unaccurate in Conquest. Some things trivials, like translating "jutsu" by "way" rather than "technique" ("way" is "do"), some moderate (like the feeble population of Rome in Rise of Rome, while it was one of the most populate city of the whole area, and the big numbers of the population were the definite advantage that allowed them to draft tens of thousands more soldiers even after the disastrous defeat against Hannibal), some quite important (the total lack of Rome presence in Spain at the start of Rise of Rome, the absence of Byzantine in southern Italy, and so on).

yup :(

:-p I'm playing as the Fatamids. 1000 and I've got Rome and all of Italy south of Pisa (which isnt much) and Sicily. Although Cairo is on sicily, and I'm building my new Palace there (ok I like playing for fun as well as winning, and the evil Arabic sicilians=very cool)

ha! the fatamid hoards fell pitifully before the might of the Byzantine cataphracts!

that will be alleviated in MY middle ages scenario ;)

hopefully, I will be able to find a map maker willing to make a map streting from Scandanavia to souther Ethiopea, and from portugal and Britain almost ot India...
