I think I’ve figured out what happened to the funds last night.

Instead of downloading Donsig’s Post-Trade save, Chieftess loaded her own 1030AD.sav. That means she started out with 900 gold and because the Sci/Lux rate had been set to 70/30 there was no income. It had been set at 30/10/103 with Physics in 12 turns when originally saved, but Donsig must have changed it. At the start of the game (0-Turn), CT rushed a temple in New Cap for 224 gold. She then attempted to rush a temple in Tlaxcala, but her computer must have glitched, because there was a temple there (Tlaxcala was building walls and had 7 shields stored) but it wasn’t complete. She claimed it was 52 turns out, which matches the figures on the walls. This means that the 212 gold for the temple was spent, but the temple was not produced. I believe CT is having memory problems with her computer. CT then spent 180 on upgrading 3 Pikemen. When Donsig came back and the discussion started about the Pre-Turn Trades, CT calmly made the deals that Donsig had done earlier on his save. They only difference with this is I think one of the deals cost 6 gold less than at Pre-Turn. Finally CT changed the Sci/Lux rate to 50/50/17 per Donsig’s request. That means 17g income on turn 1. I’ve shown the figures below.

Bank………..900
Temple…..-224
Temple…..-212
Pikes……..-180
Silks……...-100
Democ…..- 38
Income…+ 17
Balance….163

According to what I read, I believe the bank then stood at 169 gold. This means everything checks out. The only bad thing was we couldn’t afford to rush the temple in Tlaxcala because of the trades. If CT’s computer hadn't glitched, we would have had the temple, but then couldn’t afford the trades. So I guess it’s personal preference whether anything bad happened.

Clearly there was poor communication among the Leaders as far as the Pre-Turn went. CT did not know of the Pre-Turn as Donsig had rushed this as urgent. I don’t think Donsig should have done this, but that’s just my personal opinion. About the computer glitch…. stuff happens. But I would strongly recommend that the game not be played on that computer until it’s been taken to a competent tech. I do not believe we have to make any changes or replay. That should make some people happy.

Thank you, PB. I think we can assume your neck is safe from harm now. Looks like no one is at fault.

And sometimes I would rather play Civ3 than sleep.

I noticed something else strange. The game (my 1130 save) says we have 2 gems connected, which they're not. Only 1 is connected to 1 city. What about everyone else's save?

And even at 7/3/0, it said 103 per turn.

And the 163 figure looks correct, which is what I ended up with at the end of the pre-turn.

Are we getting foreign gems from a trade deal we made before we connected our own?

First, the phantom gems.
We have gems near both Tlaxcala and Chondote. Both have roads on them. Even though the roads go through foreign territory they are connected to our trade network since we are not at war. The road on the mountain gems is difficult to see but it is there.

Second, the missing gold.
Cyc your figures are close but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.;) Besides, you subtracted 38 gold for democracy when you should be adding 37 gold. the Aztecs paid us in that deal.

Here is what happened:
900 (treasury to begin with)
-180 (spent to upgrade 3 pikemen)
720 balance
-224 (rushed temple in New CAP City/Plexia)
496 balance
-100 (silk deal with India)
396 balance
+ 37 (from Aztec democracy deal)
433 balance

The treasury balance at the end of the turn was 169 gold. 433 - 169 leaves 264 gold unaccounted for. This was inadvertantly spent to rush a market in Heliopolis. In 1030 AD that market was 66 turns away from completion and Heliopolis produces one good shield/turn. The cost to rush it in 1030 would have been 264 gold. That city now has its market and has 9 shields into its university.

From 169 gold we went to 186 the next turn because our surplus at the time was 17 gold/turn. :)

I stand corrected, Donsig. I missed Helio's marketplace. Thank you for correcting me. BTW, if I had had two votes, you would have gotten my second.

Wait a second, marketplace, trade leader... :) ;)

No, it's not a conspiracy. :)

Sometimes, when I select a city, the map switches. I also have a vision impairment that I can't see out of the edges of my eyes, (more central vision), so It's possible I thought I selected Tlaxcala, and didn't see the Heliopolis at the top. There are times when a textbox appears in the upper left or right corner of the screen, and I won't notice it until a few minutes later.

By looking at Heliopolis, I just wonder why don't we turn some of the workforce to taxman.
