The most defensible location of all time

I remember in one of my games the AI had a city that was surrounded by mountains on all sides except for one, which was a hill. That city was truly impossible to take until I got artillery. Even then it wasn't very easy.

I think Print Screen button will take a screen shot right? No need to hit F12.

Good luck trying to get that screenshot to work. There is a way to do it which I have done before, I just have forgotten what it is. alt printscreen maybe?

Can't remember. The game has a screenshot function, I just don't remember how to do it.

@polish Crab City: that is completely insane. you mean the game actually started you there?? :scan:

As a side-note, apparently the steam hotkey F12 to take a screenshot is also used by Civ5 to quickload a save (nice one QA... given that Steam is mandatory this should have been caught), so I'll actually have to replay from turn 170. Is there any way to change Civ5's hotkeys?

Steam added the screenshot button long after civ 5 came out, so it's not the devs' fault. Just change the steam hotkey to scroll lock or something like I did.

I kind of want to play that save, though. It looks like a fun challenge.

It does seem incredibly challenging!

I guess you'd need to beeline straight to Optics so you can even explore, by which point you'll have to hope the AI hasn't grabbed the land near your capital... You could make it pretty much impossible to take your capital with a good navy though.

Research sailing first. Send out a trireme to explore? Build a shrine, get god of the sea. Could be fun!

Is the warrior also stuck? Or can he get out to explore. If he is stuck even after optics gotta wait until the city expands to cover him before he can embark.

One way it may be possible to get units out is to make two scouts, as one should push the other away, right? Might teleport them over the mountain. Or just kill them.

it looks as if the warrior is stuck, so you'd need to expand the borders onto him and have optics to make him useful. 2 scouts is interesting, it might pop one onto the main landmass...

I've never actually tried to see what happens if you build two scouts in a city with units that can't move. I suspect it would pop to land. I'd probably prioritize optics either way, though.

Don't they just start stacked on top of each other, with the game asking you to move one of them before ending the turn? The only option might be just to delete the newly built one. I don't think there will be any teleporting or popping next to the city.

Units teleport to the southwest (going clockwise, I think) if they're stacked at the end of a turn. It can happen sometimes, like if you have two crossbowmen who both fire and end their turn in the same city.
