The New DV?

So I decided to check out how the fall patch really affected DV's and fired up an Immortal Venice game.

wound up with a hammer heavy start and wonder whored for while before settling down to make gold and get to the info era. Totally forgot to open patronage early (went commerce instead) so missed the FP, saved up an army of GMoV and blew them all the turn I hit Info era. Nothing I could do would convince any of the AI to vote me world leader. Even offering 9999 gold and 600gpt would not get either of the civs I had DoF's with and nothing but huge solid green diplo.

After realizing I was going to have to sit through 2 entire rounds of WL votes, I took my 45k gold stack, purchased a bunch of bombers and wiped out the other civs.

So much for a peaceful diplomatic victory lol...

Any one else having trouble buying WL votes?

You're not supposed to get the other civs to vote for you, you're supposed to be allied with every city state on the map.

After that, get the world ideology and the world religion. Also build the forbidden palace, or if you missed it, declare war and steal it!

Think about it this way: Greece has been your ally over the course of the game, declared war against a civilization that almost killed you, shares your ideology, adopted your religion, and never betrayed you. Will you vote for Greece in the world congress to make him win? Of course not! You're going to still vote for yourself, or if that option wasn't available, you would vote for a civ with fewer world congress delegates!

I think it's kind of silly that if you have the option of voting for yourself, that you would ever vote for someone else in the world leader proposal actually. The only reason might be to get an ally an extra delegate in future sessions instead of an enemy if you couldn't get one yourself.

All you have to do is research globalization and put your 5 spies into the other caps and you get 5 votes when you are 4 short with out the FB.

DV is still broken, I was hoping they had done something new in the patch, but it seems it is just another band aide. The only difference is that now you probably will not win by accident as often.

Don't forget you get the vote of resurrected major civs, another thing to aim for, so your diplomatic weapons are:

- CS votes.
- Globalization.
- Forbidden palace.
- Resurrect a major civ.

Yeah, this victory condition need a overhaul, you don't need any planning, setup, or strategy to end with a DV.

But anyways, good enough for a quick fix, so you actually have to do something to win with DV. Is extremely disgusting to win DV while pursuing another VC, just because you are a superpower and have allied all CS at some point.

 How could anyone have won a DV by accident!???
If you have 'too many' delegates, just don't commit them all. Sure, the game asks you to confirm, but it lets you do it.

Maybe the problem is how easy it can be to ally all CS. Maybe the required influence amount should increase per era or per ally or something. Or, just thought of this; when a CS asks you to demand tribute from another CS, your influence drops with them if you don't do it.

If you liberate their cities from an enemy or bring them back from the dead, they will.

Are you sure on the liberating cities part? In my last game as Sweden, I liberated Babylon's capital from the Germans. I am pretty sure I did not get his vote in the election. He was the 2nd highest vote getter actually. I had to have every CS to win. Which I did.
