The new SHOF is up and ready for viewers! I've also included the new TOP 100 section and revamped the page altogether. Comments and suggests are always welcome...I'll try to update the page more quickly than I have...but in the meantime, I'm interested in generating more interest in reviews...we need more of them...especially with some of the really great scenarios that are coming up for both Civ II and CIV III!

Let me know what you think!

First, thanks for giving me a mention for the Cruel Sea :goodjob: (version 2.0 is much better though ;) )

...and now for the standard criticism of all such 'the x greatest ever...' lists:

Why didn't you include any of Harlan Thompson's historical scenarios? IMO Mongols and Vikings are some of the best scenarios ever made

Why didn't BeBro's Imperiam Romanium get a nod?

Where's Captain Nemo's Red Front and/or Second Front?

Thank you for putting my Nippon scenario on the Hall of Fame!

Hey Guys!

Thanks for the support Patrick! It's true that I need to download some more scenarios (newer versions and simply some new ones)...doing so on my machine these days is starting become an all day event...

:(

On the other hand, Case...I got the feeling you didn't see the nominations in the SHOF and you were just going by the TOP 100...Harlan Thompson (SHOF 1997) and BeBro (SHOF 2001) did get mentioned with a nice paragraph if I'm not mistaken...and with the scenarios you mentioned...however, I will check the upload  just in case something didn't get in there...both are big time veterans! And if not...hmm..I suppose you could say that you are nominating them right here!:king:

Insurgent...glad to see you like it!

And yes Morten, I'm waiting for your African scenario...and your next scenario...and so on!:goodjob:

As for myself,

I am taking a step back for a bit and finishing some reviews in the next two weeks that I started and never finished...I've got a pile of notes that need to be assembled.

I've also got three "HOT" scenarios on the board that I want to get finished...(1) NORTH & SOUTH, (2) LUNAR II (finished but needs a readme), and (3) MARS II: ANCIENT MARS. SunTzu is going to kill me for not finishing the Vietnam Scenario I promised him (I can't seem to get that one together yet but most of the problem is graphics and the map).

I'd love to hear more...

John

Marvellous...

But the Leonardos' Workshop awards need plenty of nominations, because it's rather empty over there right now. I know at least 8 or so people who deserve one (and I'm one of them.  ).

By the way, John... You created an Antarctica scenario, right? In case you're ever interested in updating it, have you by any chance seen my map/mod of Antarctica? I think the map and some of its graphics would make a rather nice improvement.

I wholeheartedly agree. But I thought you already were in the HOF?? -MapEdit is without doubt the most useful utility I've come across in my scenmaking efforts. Makes creating a civ2 map a matter of minutes, rather than hours and hours of tedium. :D

Case,
According to the fine print, its because it only includes scenarios which JV has played himself. If he's played them and they're ok, they go in the list.

Ah, OK :o The way that this was anounced made it look like it was some kind of survey of every scenario ever made, and not just the ones JV has played ;)

I was comenting only on the top 100.

uh uh, o you better finish that Vietnam Scenario
hehe i'll give you one more chance ;)
Merc should be in there, and of course nemo, John Petroski also. Harlan Thompson, Maygar Crusader.......M. Jeszenka aka Maygar Crusader.

I feel better already. Thanks for the support everyone. :D

And some other names that deserve an LWA: Xin Yu (for being a strategy god), William Keenan and Cam Hills (lots of design tips), Allard Höfelt (hex-editing) and Harlan Thompson (even though the last two already have a SoL award)... Also Angelo Scotto (MGE/CivConverters, CSPL and some other projects that never made it), Julius Brenzaida (No-limits patches, gigamap discovery), Rune Berge (GifX), Dorian Crédé (the first I know to write something sensible about editing the King's portraits, back in 1997), J.D. Reichwein (MapCopy), C.A. Flinchbaugh (MapUtility)... And me :D for MapEdit, my maps, my civ2 website (with map collection) and my "work" in hex editing (changing the graphics in the DLL's, the map file format, oversized maps)... (I felt like bragging :p)
And then I probably forgot some names, and I most certainly missed more people simply because I don't know everyone, or don't always know what sort of things people have done.

Hey Guys!

Mercator, I couldn't agree more with several things...lets sort...

On the note of the Leo Awards...I agree...it's needs more nominations...which thanks to this thread...I just got...including you, Merc (BUT NOT BECAUSE YOU NOMINATED YOURSELF...IT'S BECAUSE PROMETEUS, SUNTZU, AND MORTEN JUST DID)

I try to be fair ;)

On the other hand, thanks for all the nominations Merc!

Now, as far as the >>MapEdit<< goes...I use it all the time...I'd be a dead man without it...(maybe I should quote that in the award?)

Merc if you have a Anarctica map, by all means send it immediately! (I have to admit...without all the tools I'm just not a map maker :( ) And I might also point out...that I just updated the Antarctica scenario to v2.0...you might want to check it out...(no new map though...darn it...but...with a little help...)

SunTzu,
Much thanks to your patience...I have got a folder with "vietnam stuff" for a vietnam scenario and a weak scenario that it is at the moment which I will probably throw away at this time...Most of my problem is that I am unsatisfied with the map...PERHAPS MERCATOR CAN HELP :) hehehe

DarthVeda...hmmm...remind me....scenarios....which ones...you were on a list...email me

I won't udate the Leo Awards this weekend, due to the massive amount of homework that has piled in the closet and the screams of certain professors. So, on that note...I will promise to do this by May 3...which gives a little more time for you guys to come up with some more names. By the way...I like the idea of adding people who have contributed WRITTEN WORKS and STRATEGIES to the Leo Awards--they do deserve something for their contributions...another thing comes to mind is that there are several who have contributed xcel works sheets...what about them?!

Of course... But please don't simply give everyone who has been mentioned in this thread an award right away. An award is only interesting if it actually takes some effort to get it (not just some nutter yelling out their names). IMHO everyone mentioned deserves one, but you should at least be convinced too, or get a bit of a feel how the nominees are regarded in the community as a whole (or that's what I think, and of course I'm not running the show).

On the other hand, thanks for all the nominations Merc!

My pleasure.

Merc if you have a Anarctica map, by all means send it immediately!

Done!

...PERHAPS MERCATOR CAN HELP :) hehehe

Ahem... As much as I would want to, I don't think that's possible. I've done lots for civ2, but I've not been very active lately, and I'm rather busy.

Hmmm, yes well, that was kind of my interpretation of the description on the awards page itself:

In addition, contributors of utilities, graphics, sounds, strategies, and anything other than modpacks or scenarios receive the esteemed: Leonardo's Workshop Award

I don't really know about all the Civ2 "statistical work", so I can't comment on that.

Hey Mercator,

So true on several points...and I make every effort to justify the distribution of awards...:)

There have been those who have not qualified for one reason or another, but I remain very open to nominations for SHOF (which can only be considered through the nomination by a veteran civ player and a statement to support is required). I check statements against the actual scenario and familiarize myself with the work of an author to verify.

Top 100, of course, is simply my own subjective response (worth something I should hope).

I'm really happy with the SHOF because it has such a high level of expectation and presents an appreciation to authors guided by civ players. One thing I have to say that keeps me in awe is that there are people out there who give their time and effort freely, entirely for the enjoyment of others.

I hope the SHOF expresses "thanks".
