I'm currently on a few hunts but cant get two in particular....
Spoiler :
Gil snapper in the Giza. You have to open an extra area by chopping down trees then do something durring "heavy rains" not sure what but I went in durring the rain and nothing happened. The other is in the westernsands and it too is dependant on weather. How? Hell if I can tell yet.

I actually had that ftarget=flying gambit all along. I guess I bought them in bulk and it somehow skipped through my attention...
And you ARE further than me :)
Spoiler :
I just got that Esper in Raithwall's tomb. My last hunt was that ghost in the garamscythe waterway

I went after other marks (level 5) last night after getting frustated with the others I couldn't get to come out. I got my but handed to me buy the monsters in the sewers.

TIP:
Don't after high level marks just for giggles you will die.

I just died against a level 2 mark :p Well actually I gave up. It's that giant toad, Croecodil or something like that. After it killed two of my guys, I had almost killed him but he casted a spell giving him full HP back - after another one doubling its level. Guess I'm going to have to cast silence on that sucker ;)

Hi all, mind if I butt in?
Best Game Evar.
seriously though, I love this. I wasn't very excited about it, but my wife preordered for my birthday. I've played about 40? 50? hours since the 31st. I'm levels 29-33 or so, and headed to the Fey Woods. A place that scares me since I ended up there on a wrong turn and barely escaped with my life! much fun.

On the best weapon thing, I hadn't heard that, haven't seen the guide yet. If it is just one or two things in the game, oh well, I'll use a different weapon, and maybe play through with a guide later. I doubt it'll be vital, but it could be irritating if I let it, I guess.

Cut scenes--It was quite some time before the game really started, but after you meet up with Balthier about 2 hours in, they come at a reasonable pace (and can be skipped any time by hitting start.) I look forward to them now, though. I LOVE the characters in this game, the voice acting is good and the actual dialogue and story is really good. The princess is kinda bland, but the others are fun.

I like the battle system, although the views can be irritating. With big or flying enemies its sometimes hard to see the effect of your attacks unless you hold down L2. Oh well, its hard to find 3d games with perfect camera. Liscenses are neat. Allows the characters to be set up however you like. I have most of the liscenses I feel my guys really need right now though weapon and spells are hard to come by, makes me worry about how much game is left.
Also, a lot of the skills seem less than useful.
Mist attacks are kinda wierd, but can be devastating if you are quick. Learning them will give you double or triple MP too, so it may actually be best to learn them on your casters first, ironically.
Summons/Espers are quite understated in this game, compared to 7/8/9/10. I rarely have the MP to use the two I have.

Gambits are fun if you like simple programming. Very easy to figure out, although I was frustrated not being able to get Self:MP <x% until just now. My favorite gambit is Foe HP=100%, steal. Then other characters will have foe:leader's target, attack, that way Vaan will move from one to another. In tough battles I have to turn it off and focus on one though.

*Side note, when you get the chance to buy Theives cuff's accessory, Do it! I am usually stealing 2 items now.

Difficulty level is great, just to my liking. I've died a few times and had many very close scrapes. Some of the past games, like 7,8,9, were pretty easy for the most part.

The hunts are good since I'm not stressing completion. There are some that I've searched for and can't find. Oh well, I'll come back later or forget it.
*In case you didn't know, Montblanc in Clan HQ in Dalmasca will give you gil after every boss you kill.
Okay, there's my fragmentated review.

Okay can someone explain to me how quickenings work? I just bought the license for one, thinking I would give it a try. My very basic understanding from the manual is that they work a bit like limit breaks in FF8 when you have to enter key combinations before the time runs out.
However, the first time I launch it, I see the timer bar going down really fast, allright, but no clue to what I'm supposed to do in that time? And when it ends I deal an amount of damage so ridiculous (164) that I had to laugh.

So, what am I missing?

I dont know either... I think when you have 2 or more members in your party with quickeneings you can use both or chain them or something.

Press R2 to shuffle then when one is white click the corresponding button. It gets faster and faster but you can do more then 1 or 2 quickenings that way.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO KILL THE DEMON WALL BOSS IN RAITHWALLS TOMB!

I tried quickenings, souleater with BASCH and he hits for nearly a 1000 damage each hit. And i still run out of time.

I cant kill it.. That boss has too much HP.

I went in there 4 times. Each time I would die. I spent 2 hours leveling before going in and finaly just beat it with physical damage.

For the quickenings it is like the limit breaks. You can chain them together too. The most I've hit so far is 12. Take three party members with as many quickenings as posibl;e and It'll be easier to link them. I'm not sure how it works for sure yet but I think some combinations work better together.

The first one I gave up and fled. The second one, in the other room you access by fleeing the first wall, I easily defeated him once I had my fighters equip the accessory that renders you immune to blind, and the mages equip the one rendering you immune to silence. By an amzing coincidence (/sarcasm) these pieces of equipment are on sale at the chocobo guy right outside of the temple. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge...Piece of cake after that.

Would anyone kindly like to tell me how to get out of the Feywoods? Please.

I got out.

Spoiler :
Head straight south from the save point. Its not on the map.

Is it just me or does this FF seem considerably harder than past ones? I've had problems at almost every boss. Also, it seems that acquiring gil is much more difficult also.

I'm not really complaining, it's actually a nice change. I'm just stuck at the boss fight for the second esper (the ice one). Anyone have any advice?

The story prgresses much faster then the levels do. Gil is hard to find but thats why you need to steal more. Bosses are much more refined I think. They change thier tactics up to get the best advantage over you. Fight more monsters and sell more treasures. I sell everything down to 1 cept greens and warp stones to afford my armours and weapons.

Steal. Steal, steal steal. A good strategy if you do not want to manually steal every fight (which I did until recently): have two guys in your party with the gambit "if monster health=100% then steal". The third one will attack.
This will give you a decent chance of a successful steal without the tedious micromanagement.

Then, as Skad said, sell everything but one (First rule of Final Fantasy: you will ALWAYS keep one of everything)

Anyone know where to get the area 11 key for the mines?

I bought the game about a week after release, along with the special edition strategy guide. I haven't played much, but right now, I'm at the part where
Spoiler :
you escape with Balthier from the sewers.

So far, I've enjoyed the pacing, and I don't mind the cutscenes. The gameplay is good, and the gambit system is working well. After I can get a little bit of time in this game, I'll formally review it.

So, I loaded up the game to play for a third time through (still haven't beaten it though.. don't ask why). A lot of the cut scenes are simply amazing.. anyone know a place (like in FFX) where you can go and watch some of the cutscenes again?
