The Official Mac Civ3 Editor Thread

Is it just me, or is this some sort of vicous cycle?

-Jim

Thanks for the info, senecasax.

I'm running CivEdit off an 800mhz iMac and it's a bit doggy. I noticed, though, when the grid was off, it was actually pretty snappy (at least moving around, and to some extent, choosing brushes). However, with the grid on --especially if the coordinates are on -- it's moving slower than Dom Deluise in the Boston Marathon.
Brad: is that "just the way it is" or could there be something in the grid rendering that really drags down the processor?

That's an interesting observation. I never run the editor with those options on while editing, I mainly just tested that they worked. ;) I'll see if anything can be done.

Brad,
here is a zip containing all my revised icons for the editor. Some of them are just modified versions of the original icons- others are new ones that I found looked pretty good in the editor. I have also included the fix for the "Hide" menu option in there, in case you haven't fixed that yet.

D&G, cool contributions: in fact, you've inspired me. I took a crack at an App icon and I'm offering it up as a possible replacement for that adapted WinTel icon. I'm taking suggestions, too, so if anyone has any ideas how we can out-style our PC brothers, please tell me.

I'd take shots at the button bars, too, but I am utterly clueless to icon sizes and file types for that.

Check it out:
[EDIT: Or don't. My safari seems to have gotten lost in the jungle. Had to force quit. Will try the upload again. Has anyone else had any Safari-uploading issues or did I manage to destablize my poor iMac again?]

It's not deja-vu -- it's a glitch in the system.

Will it work?
[EDIT: Son of a bgun! Think I'll go try it with Exploder. Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm.]

It wasn't, though at least Exploder gave me the error message telling me that the attempted upload was too big (which is another mystery I shall go ponder).
:ack:
So, here I am, shaved down (sans cool folder), but at least with the app icon. Will it work? Drum roll, please...

[EDIT: I'm so used to editing now, I think I did this on reflex. Dang it, I need to detatch from this fleak-a-rack-a-frackin' computer!]

Very nice! Can i assume that all the new artwork being posted is fair game for inclusion in an "official" release?

Yes, absitively, posolutely. I'd be honored if you used it in the "official" release. Heck, I'll go tweak the quickie folder I made, too. If you want to use that, be my guest...

And unofficial purposes, too, if you have that much time on your hands...

So, in an effort to slickify the MacCiv experience, here's an appropriate "read me" icon to complement the app icon, should you so desire:

Okay, what the heck. You've got custom icons for the App, the read me, and D&G even did stuff for within the app. But you've got to put it in something, right? All those custom icons for CivIIIEdit in a plain jane folder? Nay, I say. See if this okay (if it's too busy, tell me, it can be changed).
[EDIT: Grr. It's doing it again and I'm well under the size cap. Going to step away and resume life, then try again later.]

Great icons ejday! You can try making some for inside the app as well, since I know someone can make better ones than those. Just control click on your Civ3Edit (or right click, if you have a 2 button mouse). Click "Show Package Contents," and open up the Contents folder, then the Resources folder. Inside there, you will find pretty much all the button icons and the app icon. See what you can do with those.

In the meantime, here's a CivIIIEdit folder candidate. Too busy?

I think it looks good. Just wondering, though, what exactly is it to be used for?

Just to put the CivIIIEdit stuff in it - mostly as gift wrapping for the initial download. You've got an app and a read me and they've got to be in a folder to be properly compressed, right? Then, even after you take the app and put it in the CivIII folder, you'll still have the folder to keep the read-me and any test runs you don't want to keep in the scenarios folder. Sort of an organizational tool for those so inclined.

Okay, I took a crack at the menubar icons.
D&G: Thanks for telling me where to look.
Brad: I thought about going the OS X route and going for a photo realistic look... but, frankly, my wife would kill me if I spent that much time in front of this monitor. Instead, I went for the Official CivIII look, using icons all players would find familiar and comfortable.

For your convenience (and anyone else so inclined), it has been uploaded to the CivFanatics servers.

Here's a screen grab. Note that the "Terrain" button is active, so it's green. Same thing happens when you activate the "Resources" and "Overlays" buttons in turn, each will go to color when it's selected. Same goes for the brush size buttons (which have been changed to an isometric view to more accurately represent the map on which we're painting).

Give it a shot...

Wow, I would have never thought of anything like that! Wonderful job! These are really great icons, much better than mine! :goodjob:

I'm going to use these in my copy now, and see exactly how they all look.

I feel like a git, but: Does civ3 complete for the mac have an editor?

I cannot find it, and I am having a heckuva time trying to figure out conclsively if it does or doesn't by reading posts. This thread would imply that it does. I have the game and am going nuts trying to find it. I will have to find a way to return it if there is no editor. Can anyone help!?!

Is there an editor?
