The only girl unit in the game...

Seriously, the spy in the early game is a woman? I swear it looked like he has a goatee. I thought it only became a woman like in Vanilla during the modern age.

Maybe the modern age is just when women wear more form fitting clothes and do their hair up.

Oy Vey! Not another Hitler thread.

Was the point of the original post that we have a sixth sense? Are women gifted with intuition not in male DNA or are women more observent and perceptive?

I think women are naturally more caring and so are more observent.

The early game spy is a male ninja I thought - it's funny because when you get to the modern era they all magically sex change into women!

:sniper: :ar15:  :deadhorse: If your crazy enough to think that firaxis is sexist or something well... your crazy. Lets face it the majority of the military was, and still is the male gender. And if you are offended by this you are nuts. I would make some units girls like settlers and stuff. and all the specialist can be woman exept scientists i think.

My girlfriend pointed out the other day that barring GPs, the only female unit in the game is the spy. Coincidence?

At least some of the leaders are female, which is something.

But the spy stereotype is typical. Wasn't there a similar icon in one of the "Command and Conquer" games?

I totally agree with your first few statements, but the "except scientists" comment is where you lose me. There have been many female scientists throughout the ages who have made appreciable contributions. Marie Curie? Ada Lovelace? Diotama (c. 469 BCE, who was "honored by Socrates")? En Hedu'Anna (c. 2354 BCE, an early astronomist)?

There should be more female artists. Should be half/half imo.

Overall, I don't mind that only spies are female.

What we need are more female leaders. Maria Theresa, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Joan of Arc and Cleopatra and so on.

Depending on the age, maybe some female great artists, although there aren't that many.,

Don't think there are any female Great Engineers

Most religions used to, and by and large still do, have male clergy, so female priests usually wouldn't make sense.

Great Scientists? There are a few, but again, most of them are male

Cleopatra didn't really do anything amazing that I can think of.

Joan of Arc never ruled a nation, so no.

Maria Theresa didn't do anything really of note.

Maybe Eleanor of Aquitaine, not sure

What we need are more female leaders.

We don't need to go down the road of PCness and add female leaders for the sake of adding female leaders. Leaders should be added based on historical influence and how big of a role they played. If you can find a female leader that has those qualities, then add her, but otherwise, no.

No i meant the specialist scentists in the game.

Judging from the unused James Bond esque button in Assets/art/interface/buttons/Beyond_the_Sword_Atlas.dds it appears that at one point Firaxis was considering removing the modern female spy from the game completely, and replacing her with a male spy. Obviously, that Firaxis decided against and the button remains...

ok, nuts (and jokers, which basically sums up all the posters in this thread), it makes no sense to include a bunch picture files and lines and lines of code governing the appearance of various units just to be politically correct. ---says the smartass

ok, now, in MY opinion, there exists only one problem in terms of gender in this game: when catherine says she looks forward to a CLOSER relationship, she is all talk. if you get to actually ....um....have fun w/her or have a political marriage or something, that'd be awesome. :D

btw, i was a female leader once, (bodica, i think) and cathy still asked to have a closer relationship....do we have any historical evidence that she was bi?

I'll have some fun here.

There were females that fought in war throughout history. And they aren't as uncommon as some think.

First- In Japan there were female warriors though they never made up the bulk of any force. In addition these warriors were mostly relegated to defensive purposes. To top it all off they were never given rank or position in the military[except in rare cases]. Not as common as men, but there were still a fair number of them.

Second- Russia made use of women in their army as well. In particular they were used in sniper positions. I am not sure of there numbers but I know they were used.

Third- The Kingdom of Dahomey made use of women as well. Nearly 1/3 of its army was made up of women I believe. They also were the royal body guards at at least one point.

And this is just quickies that I didn't really even attempt to look up. Japan I knew about, Russia my brother had mentioned to me before, and Dahomey I had stumbled upon long ago while looking up something entirely unrelated.

Simply put they aren't as common as male soldiers but they aren't as rare as so many people seem to think.

I know but nevertheless men still made the majority of the world armys. God! Im so misunderstood!

No! Im just...Im uh... Ahh forget it!
