The Original Civ1 game

Thats when I got hooked on the game (SNES). I can remember playing that for a week when I had the flo really bad and had a lot of enjoyment with this. Back then I thought nothing was wrong with the game and everything was smooth.

It was released on the PC before the SNES version.

The true first Civilization game, however, was actually a board game by Avalon Hill. It's out of print now, so it's tough to find, but it's a great game.

You want about 4 people, and a good 12 hours to play a game. It's very non-miltaristic. Only one type of unit, and you put 6 of them in one territory to build a city. Cities get you trade cards, which you trade to the other players, and turn in sets to buy new technologies. First person to reach the iron age (iirc) wins.

The trade is the key to the game. You have to make allies and rip them off to win.

Yeah. I played that a couple times. Only vaguely remember it though, due to ........ yeah.

I feel the same way, the only gripe I had about the SNES version was I didn't like how I couldn't get the AI (can we still call it that compared to Civ 3??) to keep his units off my land and there was no diplomacy, but, this came only after I had played Civ2 on the PC, no complaints before then.

It's been the original drug! After about a year when I got as far as playing King-games with 381% I started to take time-outs every now and then. But I kept thinking the civ-way. Plus: nobody outside Germany understands the funny aspects of bad translations. "Russen nehmt Währung" and stuff like that...

Yeah, I first played the first one on Mac's (a friend had it). It looke a little better in that version for some reason but it wasnt long before I got the PC version.

How many times do I have to point out that Civilization, the computer game, is NOT based on Advanced Civilization, the Avalon Hill board game! They share little more than a common name and the fact that they are both strategy games. There is, in fact, a computer game version of the board game called "Advanced Civilization", which I have played.

Thats true, there is the computer game "Advaced Civilization".

I think I would make love to everyone responsible if they ported CivI or CivII to the GBA. If it could fit on the SNES then you'd get portable Civ.

Well, I just wish they would make the CIV I code open, like Psygnosis did with the original Lemmings. Now you can get Lemmings on Palm & PocketPC. I would kill for the CIV I on my Palm. Heck, I would turn to the dark side and get PocketPC just to play it, if it were only available on PocketPC!

If they made CivI open source, they wouldn't get the 10 or so sales a month anymore, as it would be pirated like crazy. Maybe they haven't released it because the coding is too similar to later progs.

Well, who would I contact? I didn't find any information on Microprose/Infogrames (Did Infogrames aquire Microprose or what?) website about CIV I. Oh well...
J.

There aren't many places with Civ1 contact info left. It's best to just let the source remain secret, as civ1 is still selling in small amounts.
