It is the six hundredth year AD, and the various opportunistic tribes and peoples of Europe are still seizing the remnants of the Western Roman Empire. The Byzantines are desperately trying to re-conquer and hold the Roman territories, while the Arabs, who would later prove a vast threat are merely awaiting a figure to instigate their expansion. In the east, the Khazar khaganate and arriving Rus threaten to eventually displace the Byzantines and each other.
As time goes on, the world will see Norman invasions even of Italy and Sicily, Arabic conquests in Spain and Turkey, the decline and resurgence of the Byzantines and the destruction of the Khazar and the Sassanids. The Saxons will spread throughout Britain and the Norsemen throughout Russia.
It will be an eventful eight hundred and fifty three years until the final capture of Byzantium by the Ottoman Turks.
But now, history will be re-written, and the legacy of mighty nations will be decided, as the purple curtain falls.
