(sidenote: tho I have played on Regent level before, usually only up until the beginning of the Middle Ages. Currently in the Industrial Age, this is the furthest I have gone in a Regent level game. Here's my story.)
Game: Regent, Huge Map, Continents, 70% Water, Roaming Barbarians, Wet, Cold, 4 Billion, 8 AI's. I am the Mayans
The Mayans, an agricultural and industrious people, began their existance somewhere in the far Eastern hemisphere. Their capitol city, Chichén Itza, was founded, and the Great Instigator Reiper was named the leader of the newborn civilization. The city grew, and eventually the Mayan people got up and left their homes in Chichén Itza to found new cities for the Mayan empire.
During their expansion, the Maya came across another group of people, the Aztecs. This new civilization was located to the West of Maya. The Maya also soon discovered yet another civilization, the Koreans, to the South.
Maya was growing, but with the Aztecs to the West, and the Koreans to the South, they didn't have too many options. Neccesity forced them northward, but before they could stake a strong claim to the snow covered tundra of the North, they were faced with the reality that their "friends" to the West were quite a violent culture. Chief Montezuma of the Aztecs demanded 21 gold from Great Instigator Reiper of the Maya, and declared war upon them when Reiper did not comply. The Aztecs marched on Maya and captured or destroyed the small settlements that the Mayans had found in the North. All was not bad, for Maya however, as they were able to form an alliance with the Sumerians after Maya came in contact with their leader, Gilgamesh. It wasn't long before Maya was able to pull out of the war against the Aztecs, but the Sumerians opted to stay at war with them.
The war for gold stunted Maya's expansion, as now the Aztecs had solidified their claim up North. There was only one option left for Reiper if his Mayan Empire was to grow.
Wang Kon's southern nation of Korea was struggling. Their scientists were not very advanced, and they did not have much of a military presence. The Mayans needed to expand. The Aztecs were too strong, and the Koreans seemed to be just wasting space. The final straw for Reiper was when Wang Kon founded a settlement inside of Maya's borders. Maya's armies advanced upon the newly found settlement, and quickly destroyed it. They then marched South into the snow covered lands of Korea.
Maya had already begun their southern expansion by the time peace was declared between Maya and Korea, having even captured the Korean capitol of Seoul. Maya didn't have long to celebrate their armies victories before the armies had to march off to battle again. The Aztecs had begun another assault upon Maya, declaring war upon them for no other reason than to declare war. The Sumerians had just recently signed a peace treaty with the Aztecs, but Reiper was able to form an alliance with Shaka of the Zulu. The 2nd war against the Aztecs allowed Maya to gain greater control over their part of the continent, as they took control of an Aztec city in the southern part of the continent, near where Korea was. Maya broke out of their alliance with the Zulu and signed a peace treaty with the Aztecs.
The peace with their western neighbors allowed Maya to set their sights once again on their southern expansion. This time, Maya viciously continued their assault upon the Koreans, not stopping until every last Korean city was under Mayan control, and Maya staked claim to the entire southern portion of the continent, save for 1 city on the South Eastern coast under the rule of Sumeria.
Peace thrived for the Mayans after their conquering of the Koreans, dealing only with a cold war with the Incans, who declared war upon Maya over Wines. However, with the Incans on a different continent, and sea combat not yet a major part of warfare, no mentionable losses were suffered. However, during the cold war, Maya formed an alliance with the Celts, who were to the south of Inca, and the Incans quickly dominated the Celts before finally agreeing to peace.
Maya and Inca soon became trading partners, as the Incans exported coal into Maya in exchange for some scientific education. Peace thrived, and the world's many civilizations began to grow intellectually. And then one dreadful day, hordes of Zulu soldiers began marching into Mayan lands.
Reiper ignored the soldiers, not wanting to instigate a war with the Zulu. Reiper was planning for a war with the Sumerians, to capture the one city standing in Maya's way of complete control over their part of the continent, and to also capture the Sumerian cities founded on a island just off the South Western coast of Maya. As Mayan troops neared the Sumarian city of Kuara, more and more Zulu troops crossed Mayan borders. Reiper then learned that the Zulu and Sumerians had signed a mutual protection pact.
Reiper quickly jumped into action, calling for a trade embargo against the Zulu and the Sumerians from the Incans. He was then able to sign a mutual protection pact of his own with the Aztec. As expected, the Zulu declared war on Maya. The Aztec held their end of the bargain, and declared war the Zulu. This prompted the Sumerians to declare war on the Aztec, which gave Maya the excuse they were looking for to declare war on the Sumerians.
The Eastern continent is now in full scale war, and Maya has prompted every nation in the world to join him in trade embargos against the Zulu and the Sumerians. Only the Greeks did not agree to the trade embargo, but only with the Sumerians, and only because they are activley involved in internation trade with the Sumerians.
