That is exactly what I wanted to come back today, Daveshack.
I don't care if someone joins the game later than others and if that person is experienced or inexperienced. I still see myself as inexperienced in the demogame branch when I read some very detailed analysis of the savegames.
What I do care about is when the new guy takes on an attitude as if it's only natural that he or she gives out orders to anyone. Modesty is often described as a virtue. Personally I find modesty a prerequisite for joining a demogame that's already on-going.
Each group of demogame players has a unique interaction. Adapt that interaction before trying to shape the interaction more to your liking (the uniqueness of interactions even holds true for groups that repeatedly consist of the same members btw).
As Strider correctly pointed out not all polls mentioned/produced by Provolution were valid. I find that the Yasutan Supreme Court has failed her taks here. Although citizens can explicitly ask the Supreme Court to investigate a poll the Supreme Court can, and in my opinion should, investigate polls without a citizens request.
Sadly, I cannot find a polling act on this forum part. I think we need one and that we should stress that it's not allowed to start a new poll covering the same subject before the previous poll has ended or has officially been declared invalid by the Supreme Court.
Modesty goes both ways, as you can read in the posts, I have been accommodating and open minded to new updates and new ideas, as long as they are argued for in a cooperative and synergistic fashion.
However, if someone picks a confrontational style from the outset, no one can expect I just bend over to them. How can you ask for modesty when what you offer is patronization and belittlement.
About my particular bad poll standing out... I was the only one who recognized was flawed, and took action by withdrawing it in a small 3 hours, no one else did that. The rest of them fought it out in court.
So please try to balance out your assessment. So the Yasutan Court have not neglected anything in my regard, I withdrew it
before anyone got the chance, so get your story straight before you besmudge. Ask Strider about how he meant I handled my own poll, I withdrew it!
And for respecting the status of your harmonious interaction? Make up your mind, you want to recruit people for this, and then they should play either secondary roles, and adapt to your spontaneously created pseudoculture?
All I did was to shake up a bit, move frontline troops serving as garrisons, point out an idle settler, help execute a ripe civic change and in general greasing some rusty machinery that was a sort of residue of "established conduct". How can I adapt to some "interaction" when key people go on vacations, when people behave erratically from one night to another and that we in general had so many loose ends to tie up? I am not some houseguest asking for permission to speak his word, I came here to put the military in order.
Being modest? First of all we are mongols, second, this is a computer game and thirdly - as long as we jointly make good decisions, things will work out.
This means that some clash of ideas are bound to take place.
Yet, I do not kneel to some established veteran culture of acquaintances, I saw that in previous demogames and never really fell for it.
So state your case, and not hide behind some acquaintances in sustaining some outdated policies. The first greeting you gave me when I volunteered for in the court as temporary "Chief Justice", is that I almost did not belong in the demogame, I offered to resign to make you happy, and heard nothing since.
Not a culture I would learn much from, to put it that way.
So you can work on your own modesty before you demand it from others.
And about Daves words about me, about "Bovine End product" policies... I think it was targeted on me and none other, and not a general statement at all. He portrayed himself as a guardian and champion of the little citizens that cannot speak for themselves. All I see are grown up people who can handle their own, with no need for tutelage, patronage and "protection". As I was a threat to some....
Well, I will serve out my term, then resign, so you can make one of your "embedded associates" the new General, I think you are all better off for it.
