Just finished "The Shining" by stephen king... all I can say is that it's a masterpiece... instant horror classic. Have any of you guys read it also? The film which is also great differs in many parts from the book but who cares ... its great. Also is a great feeling to picture Nicholson as Jack Torrance hehe... adds something extra to the reading experience. Anyway ... who has read it?

This is the only part of the scene that I know from the movie:

Link to video.

So popular, it's referenced in popular culture (as seen in the youtube video)

Book imo is only worth mentioning because Kubrick adapted it into one of the greatest, deepest, and most intelligently shot horror films of all time.

On the whole, I'm not a particularly big King fan.

One of the better Stephen King books, I thought. (Mind you, my days of reading every available Stephen King novel are 15-20 years in the past, haven't really kept up with him since.)

Me too, only it's been even longer for me. But I think it is clear that The Shining was his best book, at least from that period. And Jack Nicholson was superb in the flick.

I read it last summer, got it in my kindle and thought "for some reason it had to be made into a film" and it was really good. It's a story similar to some redactions I wrote in the past (apparently normal people going mad and killing other people) only much longer and well-written. :)

For the genre I find it great, one of my favorite books in that regard. I love the first line of the book: "Jack Torrance thought: Officious little prick..."
it caught my attention right away :).
