The Sid Virgins Try Sid Again (settings TBD)

indeeed.
follow the rules that make sense.
you dont want to react to somebodyelses deals? right?

just do like i do.
in the last 2 turn i think about how I would react to things im doing.
it usually works.,

Pre-turn
Being warned about early landing go with settling hot spots first.
Russia hasn't learned the wheel yet , but does know Cartage which do know the wheel, we take the trade, get Masonry for the wheel and 50 gold.
IBT
Russia wants 32 gold. Cave as I don't want to take risk they might be close to MM.
1725BC
London settler->settler
Get HBR from Zulu for Masonry and 250 gold
sell HBR to russia for myst and 170 gold
was hoping to get math from cartage but they won't sell.
1700BC
Found Nottingham on the spice->worker
lux to 40%
1675
Found Hastings->warrior 2N of London
Found Canterbury->worker N of cows
Russia now has MM, won;t sell, also Cartage won't sell. Zulu's are down myst
Decide to wait couple turns before seling myst hopefully zulus get even more cash and price of MM/math will go down.
1600BC
York settler->settler
lux down
Zulus are losing gold decide sell now, get 225 gold for myst
Still can't buy math nor MM.
1575BC
London settler->settler
IBT Cartage want's HBR say no as they don't have MM yetm is risky but HBR is rather expensive. Also they will need 5 turns or so just to get over here.
1550BC
Hasting warrrior->warrior
Change Notingham to warrior
1525BC
Found Coventry to claim iron and horse ->warrior
1500BC
Found Warwick -> warrior
Put taxman in Canterbury
Might want to change London or York to rax and connect iron, plenty of gold to upgrade some warriors.

Preflight, 1500 BC (60):
We are at war with Carthage, and they don't want to talk. Isn't this supposed to be a peaceful game in AA?
We know all the 2nd tier techs except math, and are researching literature by 10% investment in 40 turns.
We have 7 cities, 2 workers, 1 warrior, and 1 curragh.
Since we are at war, I switch London from settler to rax. York can be a 4 turn settler factory, so let it happily do that.
I build an embassy in Moscow for 45 gold. They have 6 citizens, no fresh water, 2 lux, rax, granary, temple, colossus, 11 spt, 15 fpt, 22 cpt, and are building a galley. Obviously they are going to send settlers overseas. The embassy tells us that Russia is at war with Carthage!
Then embassy in Zimbabwe for 71 gold. Rax, temple, 2 horses, 6 citizens, no fresh water, 10 spt, 12 fpt, 8 cpt, building a horseman.
MM York so that it grows in 1 turn. Let's try to get the most usefulness of its granary.
I don't quite like the positions of Warwick and Coventry. If we found them somewhere more outwards, we can gain more citizens working water tiles. Since we will be in this small island for ages, we will be far from reaching Nopt, and more citizens will be simply better. I change them to worker. Some day maybe we will disband them by building worker or settler.

1475 BC (61): MM York.
IT: York settler -> settler, Nottingham worker -> rax, Canterbury worker -> rax.

1450 BC (62): Russia now knows Code of Laws. Drop lux and increase science.
IT: Hastings worker -> rax.

1425 BC (63): Warrior into London. Lux 20%.

1400 BC (64) IT: London rax -> spear.

1350 BC (66): Hannibal is willing to pay 20 gold for peace now. They still only have 5 cities, up math and map making, down riding. I hold.
IT: York settler -> settler.

1325 BC (67): Found Newcastle.
IT: London spear -> spear, Hastings curragh -> curragh.

1300 BC (68): Russia knows math too. Peace with Carthage nets us 20 gold, then an embassy for 63 gold shows that Carthage has 7 citizens, 2 lux, 8 spt, 16 fpt, 21 cpt, and then riding + 222 gold = math. Then, ally them against Russia, netting us all their 286 gold. The main concern of doing this is to eliminate their ability to buy laws from Russia.
IT: London warrior -> warrior, Coventry worker -> worker. People expand our palace.

1275 BC (69) IT: London warrior -> warrior, Warwick worker -> worker.

1250 BC (70): Send the new curragh to Carthage and then to the yellow border.

Some possible city positions are in red circles. The main principle is to have as many citizens as possible, and not to have 1 tile unworked. It may look tight, but we lose nothing if we keep the shiled productive tiles to the most productive cities, and assign the fishing villages mainly water tiles. We can build granary in food rich cities, then transfer citizens to food poor but gold rich cities, especially fishing villages.

Got it.

I like you northern dots better, Heroes. But in the south, they're too tight. A city 1S of where the settler is now will still make a canal, but will be on tundra instead of grass, and won't hurt London that much.

Turn 1:
London builds Warrior, York Settler, Canterbury Worker.

IT: St. Petersburg finishes GLighthouse. We must be careful about the galleys.

Turn 2: Oxford settled, starts rax in 20.

IT: Carthage and Russia sign peace.

Turn 3: Carthage still hasn't got CoL, so I re-ally them for 120 gold.

We make contact with Portugal, they have Poly and MM. No 2fer possible.

IT: we get Iron hooked up.

Turn 5: 3 warriors upgraded, more will follow

Turn 8: Russians settle a city on our island. :mad: DocT was right.
Liverpool settled

Turn 9: Dover settled in the North.

IT: Carthage tries to boot our curragh, we sign RoP. We can build FP.

Turn 10: Portugal gets CoL.
We get Horses connected.

Red dots are my suggestions for cities, in addition to a couple of them around Oxford.

I build coventry where it is to claim iron and horse immediatly. If we had more time I would have placed different as well.

Good point about the tundra canal, Pentium. :)
I would suggest building cats rather than more rax. We have enough rax, but to make good use of units we need many (at least 10 I would say) cats.
And please keep building ships until we contact every one.
As a retrospect, why didn't we go for philosophy at full speed after min run of writing? First hand philosophy costs only 300 gold, we don't lose much even if we are beaten. Now since we are going for literature, we need to determine whether we will do self research and build libs.

lurker's comment: 1000BC and 12 pages?

:eek:

You're gonna break some sort of record here, even if you don't win :lol:

One of LK's rules is to not trade on your last turn.

I'm not sure who wrote that rule, but I always followed it. It's about common courtesy and caring about your next team-player. It should be discussed and left alone, so the next player in turn can make what the team wants.

It's like: Turn-10 - Get annoyed with that snooping Russian warrior and tell him to go. War!

I don't think anyone would be happy to get in to that situation. So if you have something going on the last turn, just let the team decide and leave the turn somewhat 'unready', so next player can do the deal or whatever.

And from Doc:
Forget elaborate dotmaps. Grab the really good city spots ASAP

If you wait too long, you're bust! Simple enough too, just grab what you can and immediately.

Your situation is quite good atm, keep up the good job. :)

Nice to see you around, gozpel. It seems we'll have the whole 7+1 team helping us :).

@SW: May I just ask you how (and why)? :crazyeye:

@next player: Try to get 15spt out of London. You can't do that now, but it will grow soon.

point 1- well, i wanted to get a nice DVD burner, as i need to start backing up my pc (120GB of tunes go a long way...)
point 2- dont drink and drive :beer:. and dont go dismantling your pc after you've just got from the bar, just because you're eager to do some horizontal mambo with the barmaid. ;)
point 3- ALWAYS make sure your CIV CD is secure in its very own, bulletproof, fire resistant, cleaning lady hexed storage container, and YOU ALONE HAVE the combination!

otherwise, 15spt would be eagerly awaited and recieved.
keep them russkies afightin'.

if we're lucky we can get another few towns in the south and limit resistance on the home front o only a few russian towns.

i would also suggest we start marching a few of those lovely :ninja: to the south and take that russian town before it gets too big.

Absolutely. And we'd better bring several cats to do that.

I'd keep producing Swords in London, and change other raxless cities to cats.

Since SW can't play until friday because of his superior idiocy, it should be Own's job.
