I don't think there's a therad about this show here.
I've been watching mostly because it has really scary vampires for a change. The quality is pretty inconsistent and it will swing from genuinely good to so bad it's good during a single episode. Even at the best of times it has some outstandingly bad dialogue and writing. Despite all the shortcomings it's one of my favorite shows right now. I could call it a guilty pleasure, but I honestly don't feel the least bit guilty.
The only thing I really hate is the damn kid. I wish he gets eaten by vampires soon.

I'm a vampire fan(atic), and also a fan of Del Toro's work, but I haven't seen this show yet. I liked the first book, but not as much the second. I don't know if there's a third yet, but I probably won't bother. I know the show has gotten some pretty poor reviews, but I suspect I'll be motivated to give it a try someday anyway.

haven't read the books and I don't plan to. The show makes it pretty obvious that Del Toro should stick to directing and leave the writing to others.
But it's fun.

My sense was that Chuck Hogan did most of the writing of the novels, and Del Toro was more the "ideas man." Anyway, Del Toro has a writing credit on all of his movies, and was the sole (credited) writer of his best, Pan's Labyrinth. I think he's a fine writer.
