In the year 4000 BC, Harald Hårfagre had after a long struggle united the Norwegian Vikings under his rule, and had been given the title of King and immortality by Odin, the chief god of the Vikings. Harald Hårfagre was a giant among the Vikings, who were already tall and strong. His sword “Glamdring”, who the god Tor gave, could go trough even the hardest armour of steel, cause it was forged by Tor, and made of a metal unknown on earth.

Harald Hårfagre decided to build the capitol, Bergen, on the grassland next to a great river. He ordered a group of scouts to travel south and explore the area south of Bergen. They found a village, where the inhabitants was so impressed by the Vikings that they offered Harald Hårfagre to include the village, Stranda, in the coming Norwegian Empire.

Bergen and Stranda prospered, and after some years, settlers began to found new Norwegian cities in the area around Bergen and Stranda. One of his smiths, Brage discovered a new type of metal, Bronze, which shields and spears could be made of. The Viking expansion continued, and many cities were founded. One day, his foreign minister came to his palace with some very important news. They were not alone!

To be contineud! If enyone likes it.

not bad, write on, I'm not a good story critic, but hey it is way better than anything I could write so...

Good story, maybe a little short but good.

But "Glamdring" thats from lord of the rings, maybe you shall have taken Kvernbitt instead.
I know Kvernbitt was Håkon den Gode, but that was the only one I remembred, and Håkon was son of Harald.

Signed Heine, som stammer fra Halvard Svart, far til nettopp Harald Hårfagre/Halvardson.

ok,ok, ok! I didn't find a better name right then, and I know that Glamdring is from The Lord of The Rings,(actually its mentioned first in The Hobbit).

Til Heine:Kansje du kunne finne på noen gode viking navn til meg, når jeg fortsetter historien etter påske, ser ut som du har peiling.

Tolkien was inspired by Norse myths in the writing of the Lord of the Rings. Thus it's not a problem. In fact the name Gandalf originates from Norse legend.

The French.

Halvdan Svarte, the Foreign Minister stormed into the Throne Hall.
- Important news, King. We have established contact with a tribe calling themselves Frenchmen. Their leader, a powerful woman named Joan d’Arc, wishes to have a meeting with you as soon as possible.
- How is these “Frenchmen”? Do you consider them as a threat?
- Hard to say, we were contacted by a messenger who spoke French, their language, but one of our Jarl’s, who had learned it from a primitive tribe functioned as translator. They seemed very polite, and not aggressive at all. Their land is about half the size of ours, but is rich in recourses. You should discuss if they are a threat or not with Harald Hardråde, your Minister of Defence.
-Good, tell the messenger that I will see Joan d’Arc tomorrow, in their capitol.

With him to Paris, the French capitol, Hårfagre took with him Halvdan Svarte, Harald Hardråde, Ragnhild Torvaldsdotter and his Royal Guard, who consisted of his one hundred best warriors, under the command of his most trusted Jarl, Erik Blodøks. Ragnhild Torvaldsdotter was appointed Minister of Culture a week before the messenger came.
Outside the palace of Joan d’Arc, it was more a cave then a palace though, they were met by Jacques Chirac, the French foreign minister, and Charles de Gaulle, the French minister of Defence.

- Joan d’Arc is waiting, just follow me. Jacques said.
- Let me present St. Joan d’Arc, our beloved leader. The foreign minister said, and bowed before her.
- Welcome, King Harald Hårfagre, it’s a pleasure to see you. Who is the members of your glorious party? Joan d’Arc asked.
- This is Halvdan Svarte, my Foreign Minister, Harald Hardråde, my Minister of Defence, Ragnhild Torvaldsdotter, my Minister of Culture, and my Royal Guard, under the command of Erik Blodøks, my most trusted Jarl. Harald Hårfagre replied.
- Very well, but lets get to business, I will offer you Mathematics in exchange for Polytheism and twenty coffers of gold. What do you think? A cunning smile came to Joan’s face. But Hårfagre replied:
-Do you take me for an idiot? That deal is highway robbery and you know it. I can stretch me to Polytheism for Mathematics and ten coffers of gold, take it or leave it!
- How rude! But I suppose its within your barbaric Viking nature. OK, I’ll take, but only to be nice with you. Now, if that’s it, you can leave.

On the way back to Bergen, Hårfagre had a meeting with his Foreign Minister and his Minister of Defence.
- Hardråde, what’s your opinion of the French? Hårfagre asked.
- I think they are somewhat OK, but I don’t like her Minister of Defence, he seemed very sly, and he should not be trusted.
- Why not? Halvdan Svarte asked.
- It’s just a feeling I have about him, I feel that he will cause us great trouble.
- Time will tell, sooner or later, time will tell. Hårfagre said.
- What do you estimate their military strength to, Hardråde?
- I would say that they have a military equal to us, but when Brage has finished the research on Iron Working, we will get a lead. Nonetheless, I would suggest that we strengthens our army by passing a law of conscription.
Soon after the law was signed by Harald Hårfagre. The law was like this:
“ Every healthy man shall receive military training from he is 18 to 23, and be enlisted in the reserves until he is 40 years old. Those who want a military career can sign a ten years contract with the army, and can either go to the Military Academy to become officers, or they can be educated to professional soldiers.”
This law led to that Norway got a professional army with professional soldiers and officers,
a professional army that they would need soon after.

Next: The Great War!

We are waiting for the great war ;)
