So I'm been reading a fascinating book on human evolution called "African Gensis". Its an old book from the 1960s so the facts are a bit outdated but its thesis is quite clear. It claims that we evolved from hunting apes and that our affinity for war is simply natural instinct. A fascinating read. I would like to read a more modern version of it though. However, the most interesting part of the book was not about apes, it was about the sexual fixation of various bird types.
Observations and studies show that birds tend to make whoever they grow up and spend the most time with their object of sexual desire.
There was once a peacock who grew up in the reptile house that fell in love with a tortoise and would not eat if taken out of the reptile house. He stays with the tortoise all his life.
The funniest case was with a naturalist(whose name was Lorenz) and a Jackdaw(a type of crow-like bird). He raised the bird from the time it was hatched and unfortunately for him, the young Jackdaw turned his sexual attentions to Lorenz when maturity came. The bird wouldn't leave him no matter what other Jackdaws were trying to attract it. The bird kept trying to feed him a beak ful of minced works(since males Jackdaws are akin to feed their mates). Lorenz had serious problems for the rest of the bird's life because Jackdaws are faithful for life.
Now thats a good one. Imagine saying to your significant other "I'm sorry, I have to leave you because my bird has a crush on me."
Now for desparate guys, here's some hope. You Can have a companion in life. And unlike many girls, Jackdaws are faithful for life. They won't dump you or leave you for someone else no matter what plus they are strictly monogomous. See there is light at the end of the tunnel.
