Things in Civ3 that would make no sense in real life

Well, now that you mentioned it...

- There are those guys on motorbikes wearing leather vests with some kind of cherubic logo.
- Downtown area, especially after dark, seems to draw wandering barbarian warbands, except they seem to prefer knives instead of battle-axes. They are as proficient at pillaging, though.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is their origin. If all the available land is inside our cultural borders then where the heck can their barbarian camp be?

BTW If I do find the camp how much is 25gp in dollars? :)

Time Magazine, in 1999, listed the Printing Press as the most significant invention of the last millenium. Apparently they did not check with Firaxis prior to making this distinction.

Maybe I phrased that a bit too harshly. I have edited it to be a little less harsh. BTW is that bashing Time or Firaxis?

...thought that citizens points represent laboral age people?

I guess children and oldies aren't represented because... they don't produce anything. Well at least not in first world, here in last world countries they DO work.

There is not "T.V." tech. It should allow you to build TV stations, and make 21 unhappy people content, and 13 content people happy, in that city. With 5 TV stations, one should be able to make the "cable company" small wonder, which will double the effects of the TV stations. Satilites also unlocks Satilite TV which is the same as cable company. Effects do not stack. By having both small wonders, you should be able to build the large wonder, "Big Screen" which will make anarchy last 2 turns shorter, or in the case of religious civilizations, make governemnt changes happen the turn before you do it:crazyeye:  :crazyeye: :king: :crazyeye:  :crazyeye:

the invention of the computer doesn't make people happier.no internet tech that makes people happier or something like that.

Semi-nomad people like the Iroquois launching a spaceship to Alpha Centauri in order to colonize it (possibly through extorsion of land of the alien natives...)

And I think no one mentioned an obvious one:
You rule an empire through 6500 years going through several types of governments and revolutions - which you start, by the way.

A bit like if King Louis of France decided Republic was a terrific idea and changed government so he could become president.

Or something like the following:

"Revolt in Washington! The downtrodden masses, tired of languishing under your despotic heel, have stormed your palace. They demand greater representation for the people!

...however, in recognition of your past service to the state, you are appointed Consul of the new American republic."

eh, maybe not. :)

"Sergeant, the people of this city are resisting our rule and clearly want to rejoin their mother country. They despise our culture and admire the one they grew up with. There are a lot of them, and they are armed, although not very well. I want your advice: should we brutally suppress them, killing as many as it takes, and possibly suffering heavy casualties ourselves? This would probably destroy much of the city infrastructure, and offend world opinion. Or should we retreat?"

"Neither sir. In my opinion, we should just stand here and die. The city will culture-flip back to its former country and we will just evaporate from the face of the earth."

"Great idea sergeant. Just lay down and die, why didn't I think of that?"

...the concept of Dinasty.
Anyway... you, the player, controle the current leader whoever is it.

What is really weird is that the current leader is the one who provokes the revolution upon him/herself

You are right, that has to be it!

America is switching from Dem to Mon in order to better wage the war against Iraq and the economy is now suffering from the six turns of anarchy! :)

thanks pembroke, i never thought of biker gangs, maybe i should add them to the game.

oh, ive been reading the carrier thread and ive just discovered that they have attack 1! in WW2, didnt the USN give their carriers a whole lot of defensive weapons? shouldnt they be able to defend themselves better?

as to the (old) subject of what techs you get when you go from age to age with a scientific, i get engineering about half the time

Phillipe is correct, why are there no corpses? I think that after a major battle the battle-field should be polluted with corpses

Of course it doesn't, have you seen my internet bill?

Don't miss the point:
Internet makes you happier. But internet bill, which is a total distinct thing, makes you unhappier.

Yet another one about the "spearman beats tank" story:

A single tank drives along in the allied territory, it's 3am, about 100km from the front line, -10 degrees.

A small village to the right, and a some trees, maybe even small forest to the left.

The tank just continues on to drive to its base, the whole crew is very tired after a whole day of training.

A lone spearman jumps out from the bushes, silently runs behind the tank, climbs on it, opens the hatch and kills the tank commander with the spear. He then takes his pistol and executes the gunner and the driver.

So it's not 100% impossible for a sperman to eliminate a tank.

Logevity are meant to lengthen people's lives. But in the game, if you build it, it's ganranteed you'll have some people starve. Basicly the more food you produce, the bigger chance you have people starve.

How is Sun Tzu's Art of War built across the world? I can understand if they just called it the art of war, but did some mother have the inspiration to giver her child a forgin name of a country she had never heard about? Also, If I'm playing China, and I get sun Tzu as a leader, get him back but he is killed on the way, how do Can I still make his art of war?

Sun Tzu is not a great leader in the editor. And even he died, he can still make the art of war, I mean, he did die.
There are a lot of people saying 'Newton...' shouldn't be in Japan and things. I think it's quite real. So the British may not like Newton, but the Japanese recognise him. Like Marx is German, but it's Russia who becomes the first communist country.
