Things to patch

ok i am new here and have been playing civ since someone "enlightened" me to test of time. Ill have to say that the graphics on 4 are nice. The promotions are a new twist, allows you to talor your army to your fighting style. i havent got the hang of all the different religions and how it helps/hurts so i wont comment on it just yet. i love the select all and move all. its hell spending hours moving 300+ units from one tile to another. the UN is a great feature.

I have a nice wishlist:

1) all the advisor screens are clumbsy. I am more fustrated trying to do things i could do with civ 3 and i cant "or havent figured out how".
2)from military advisors in civ 3 i could upgrade my units all at once. Now i have to click on every single unit. This is fine when u have only 10 or 20, but when you have 300+ (insert your favorit unit), i dont want to spend all night upgrading.
3) what happened to the option to always build previous unit? its takes so much time to pick the same unit every time.
4) i cant seem to bombard land tiles with my ships anymore, it only attacks the city.
5)the transport only holds 4 units? i miss the 8
6)the airports only allows you to transport 1 unit at a time, but you can only land at the same airport once. I did find that you can land at a city with no airport.....

Some of these improvement were patches during civ 3, it would have been nice for them to incorporate them into civ4 as well.

And you still can, just select 1 unit of the type you wish to upgrade, press ALT and choose upgrade.

Feel free to edit it in the XML file, I think it's more fair since transports are easily constructed. You don't mind the decreased movement point btw?

Yeah, that's a bit odd, perhaps the villagersquickly arranged a landing strip ;). Maybe the soon-to-come patch will fix this.

Give me the name of a game that went into sales without bugs and I consider whether I should agree with you.
The fact that other games may have flaws and are rushed doesn't imply that Civ4 is without problems, does it?

Then, there also appears a small circle with an arrowpoint on your screen. If you click that you automaticly scroll to the 'sighting spot'. This is the same circle you get when you're viewing an active unit but (for some reason) scroll to a position on the map where you can't see the active unit anymore..
Yes, but this small circle sometimes is covered by other screens, vanishes after a second or so or - sometimes - just does not appear at all.
Hyronymus said:
Agreed, but I wonder if this should be considered a rush error or a general misjudgement.
Well, it doesn't depend very much upon if it was due to rushing or misjudgement to qualify for being patched, no?

Isn't that why there are icons in the upper right corner of each tech, to indicate what other tech you need?..
Yes, but wouldn't it be nice to have an indication at first glance, if a new tech already allows for its successor from the main tech tree screen?

I don't get this one :?:.
Why on earth don't we have a principal indication about how many turns are needed to get a certain tech, without having to hover with the mouse over it (doesn't work all times) or to click onto it? Since the functionality obviously is availabe, why isn't it available without manual action?
Hyronymus said:
Nah, nothing to do with Civ4 being a rush job. You need some getting used to it.
Ah, c'mon! The upper right buttons ARE a little close to the area of shifting the screen. Some pixels more into the screen wouldn't harm anyone but would solve the issue.

One thing I call a proper misjudgement of the dev team is to have the civilopedia without names, just icons. This is kind of annoying since you need to guess what's what, expecially the first times.
Completely agree.

At the bottom line: I intentionally called this thread "Things to patch", since many are not "bugs" but things to be improved.

I agree with many of the previous wishlist items and would like to add a couple more:

turn off the dang 'suggestion to build a new settler when I either don't have the money or later in the game where there is just no room to settle.. yet it still asks once or twice a turn.. very irritating.

I really need to have access to data when one neighbor asks that I cancel deals or go to war with another... I can't keep all that info in my head..

I want to be able to put a 'will not trade' status on my resourses/techs/trade/war list like the AI has.. That would save me getting bad dipl points when they are always asking and I want to say no... It is not fair that they get the option when I don't.

And on the same subject... When bringing up the relationship.. I see the points from their point of view.. but don't see where they have refused to help me..

That is a start of my wishlist.. more to come..

Isn't that a simple question of turning off the governor?

i couldnot find it and i'm not playing anymore (too many craches) but from my first tries i missed this:

"show friendly moves" should also show your own automated moves.
as it is now i find it difficult to know where my units are or what they encounter on their trip.
could be an other option too like "show own moves".

Thanks, i will give it a try.

On the note about the movement rate, i noticed that as well, but i didnt complain about it yet. :)

Now about editing this XML file thingy......lol
