My brother and I are trying to play C3C games using two computers hooked up by cable to a common router. We can connect and play without crashes, but a few issues cropped up:
1) This has been answered in a few other threads, but not conclusively as far as I can tell - is it at all possible to get rid of the lag that appears even in turn based mode? None of our computers is particularly slow, the router is bright and shiny new, no firewalls or other programs are active (we disconnected the router from the Net) and we use the fastest computer for hosting, but we still get two seconds' lag every time a unit is moved and several between turns. It took us close to two hours to get out of the Ancient Era on a Standard map. Does everyone really have this, or are lagless games possible with the right settings/hardware/software setup?
2) Tiny and Small maps aren't allowed in MP unless you use the Tournament mode - why is that, exactly? (Smaller maps seem somewhat more appealing with the lag.)
3) Some preferences seem to be locked, specifically the End of Turn notice. It feels as if it just adds to the lag as it takes several seconds before the computer even acknowledges you really pressed Return, whether or not a new turn is coming up. Also the "Press Space or Enter" message starts blinking again for a couple of seconds just as the new turn begins, meaning you can have the message flashing on your screen for up to ten seconds after pressing Return if you're the one to finish your turn last. Any fix or workaround for this?
Any help or comments would be welcome.
