Sorry if this has been asked before, the Search function is disabled and wasn't too inclined to continue scanning all Thread titles after i got to page 7.

Anyway, no Throne Room or Palace improvements in Civ 4? If not, why not?

If they're not in the game, that's pretty disappointing. That was one of my favorite features of the 1st 3 games, trying to max out the Throne Room or Palace.

**cripes. wrong forum.

Oh yeah, I also really liked the throne room/palace. That was one thing why I tried to make my population happy; trying to see the entire throne room/palace. I hope it will be included in the patch.

please don't ask for that is was disrupting, and boring after the first 2 times. I finally just stopped responding to it. Perhaps it is out because it was asked to be removed by many.

Indeed. Gets old fast. In Civ 1 it still was slightly fun to make a horribly mismatched palace, but I guess I don't find that fun anymore either. I miss High Council more than throne room/palace building.

True. It probably would need to be the throne room instead of palace because of "what you get is what you will see on the map" principle.

Please do not bring this back. It was distracting, annoying, and ultimately pointless. If they DO reinstate this banality, I really want an option to turn the thing off.

Later!

I'd have liked both back, but I suppose the council would have been better.

When I played Civ 2, I would usually try to get to the Modern Era without discovering trade just so I could hear the trade guy's complaint about it.

"Trade, sir! DISCOVER IT! This is you! This is a clue! Get a clue! Discover trade!"

Ah, memories.:D

The palace/throne room added a nice touch that made it feel more like you were the ruler of a country and not some guy playing a strategy game. That's a feature they have really lost in CIV 4: no palace, no advisors, no change in the leaderheads over time, no embassy etc. ANy feature that adds to the feeling of immersion in the game would be welcome. I hope they bring it back.

I agree. It became downright annoying in Civ3. It was funt he first few times, after that it got really old and you just wanted it to go away.

As long as there is an option to turn it off I won't mind, but I really don't miss it at all.

sigh. The throne room or a palace is a feature that you do not have to use at all if you do not like it. What was the point in wanting it out of the game if its presence only affects those who do like it? It is amazeig how controling some gamers are. Some would even do away with the movies period. And people like me who look forward to the movie of each new game would be sad.

OMG! i agree ENTIRELY! the Palace and throne room are the ONLY reason i kept my people happy, (call me materialistic) and those who think it is "annoying", how can that be annoying, it takes approximately 2 seconds to get rid of the screen if you dont want it.
I cant play the game becasue my computers too old, and i dont have a DVD player in it so i didnt know there was no palace:(:(:(:(:(

not happy

If it makes you guys feel and better, there's a whole bunch of abandoned python code for a throne room that's not implemented in the game. I guess either they couldn't get it stable or they just ran out of time; in any case, I don't think any throne art is in the game, so don't keep your hopes up for a mod.

It was very disapointing to find out this has gone.
A few loud voices on a distant forum should have been no call to remove it.
Many of us more silent types loved it.
Please bring it back with an update and give a tick box for those who want to turn it off.

Civ 4 has suffered a lot from being rushed in the areas which do not directly affect gameplay. I get the impression the palace/throne room was axed to help get the game out faster. The other 'reward' things, such as the wonder and victory movies also seem rather unimpressive and badly executed. (Am I the only one who thinks that the Civ 2 wonder movies would look better than the Civ 4 ones?)

I admit the palace got old rather fast, but you could just ignore it if you didn't want it. The council would also be nice to have back, as they were always good for a laugh even after many games.

The palace did get old after a few games of building the same one, but I can't see why anybody was annoyed by it. I liked the idea of different architecture for different cultures, which helped not only becuase i wasn't bulding the same exact thing, but also to give a better feel of who I was playing. Really the repitition was the only drawback for me, and i think that could be solved by having more architectural options. Maybe even a 3-d palace would do the trick. I never played civ2 but I have seen a screenshot and i like the idea of a throne room. I agree that the return of either palace or throne room (or both) shouldn't disgruntle any players who have no use for the whole idea, due to the option of declining expansions which i know was in civ3.

I loved the palace/throne room. I mean sure maybe the better measure was when i had a massive navy or when each city had its own nuke but it was still nice to build the oddest palaces/throne rooms. I mean from my limited play of civ 4 [due to technical problems with it and my ATI card] I could do without the religion section of the game. I go by it so fast and I see no need for it mostly. I too wait for the movies. I remember I couldnt buy civ 4 immediately and a friend had a 12ft projector screen hooked into his comp and I saw the civ 4 beginning movie and well happy was way understating how i felt. I drooled.......
