I know I saw a thread on this. Damned if I can find it.
I think I read that it is a waste to build improvements out past a certain point. Is this true? If so, how many tiles out from your city will yield benefits?
Your city can work 3 tiles out. But if you have a resource further than that but still within culture borders you can still connect it and get the global benefit e.g. iron for your troops, luxuries to trade.
You can chop down trees anywhere and get a production bonus in closest city but it lowers the further you are away from the city.
No, and unless you're on 1 city challenge or doing Bollywood, I can't honestly think of a good reason to use more than 12 of the hex tiles in any given city... unless you built in the middle of a desert and all your food is on the far outskirts... but that was stupid to do anyway; wasted an early settler.
