Tips for not collapsing as Mongols? 12% UHV

I have trouble getting 12% world with mongols. I tried to get as much population in my core as possible, and even razed a few chinese cities so I would not have to hold many, and tried to have them not get giant. I also razed one korean city, so that it would be less population to take care of while holding about same land there under border.

But I still am collapsing around near when I am taking Persia.

It would be a lot easier if vassals counted as 12% uhv, but it does not. So no point vassalizing anyone seems like.

I built jails everywhere outside core, but still getting overextended. How can one get 12% and not die from collapse?

If one does not research one could delay, but if one declares war or takes a city it can do a stability check. (so can still go to unstable/collapse)

Any tips?

Do not raze any cities unless they are of size 1 (if even then early on). The stability penalty you get is huge for such a short game as Mongols.
You can raze the cities you need for you UHV at the very end.
Send all the workers you capture in China to tend to your core cities first. You need to get them to grow.
Optimise city placement in the core to maximize population.
Do not let your cities outside the core grow to much, especially those in China.

Razing does not seem to give any stability penalty when playing as mongols,

but OK I am going to starve some of the chinese cities outside core, because one is 10 pop, another is 7, and its just not enough room

Also, what is even the point of the mongol wonder which gives great people when given a great general? (requires pagan religion only in city and as state religion)

I started building it in capital almost at the start, but by the time I am almost done with it I have already had like 5 generals so its usefullness is almost nonexistent ? my next general is 105 experience away and I only am just about to finish the wonder.

Is it just better to adopt a religion instead of try to get this wonder to work?

BTW,

Does mongol core expand/contract/stay same when in renessainse era?

currently my population is 40 in core, 52 outside core. (just built another core city which will probably give another 10 eventually, and other cities are still growing, and have room to grow ) I think china really is draining my expansion because it has a 10, 7, 6 cities. Now I am having them starve down.

Other stability issues is: -2 from a barbarian killing a unit -3 from war-wariness (soon to be gone I think since almost done killing turks) -3 bad relations -3 outdated civics (animism)

Only just took capital of persia. going to have them just starve too I guess.

Advancing to the Renessainse era will give you a better core pop multiplier when calculating expansion stability.
So it helps alot.

Ok Ill keep that in mind, thats a good point I forgot about that!

I am restarting because china appeared when I Was at 10%

I usually don’t even research as mongols, really no techs that I absolutely NEED. I just set my culture slider as high as possible to cover more area quicker.

I Use Chinese cities to build settlers to settle core area and historical areas or switch to despotism and whip out tons of horses

Usually getting a tech triggers a check.

Once China collapses I think Beijing becomes part of core so I give that city as much Chinese resources in its BFC

I can confirm that growing your core cities big while whipping all other ones at every chance can keep you from going unstable.

I just collapsed in a game with Mongols.
I tried a strategy to get the part of UHV to destroy 7 cities: tech path to geography, caravel, cross pacific ocean and get two conqueror events: enough to delete from the history all pre-colombian civs before Cortez and Pizarro.

The problem is the 12% of land. What am i supposed to conquer to get 12%?
China, of course, then Samarkand and Persia, and it is about 6%.
And then?
I can settle a couple of cities in Manchuria, one in Indus valley, but i'm afraid i have to go up to Costantinople, and perhaps not enough.

Can someone tell how much is 12% of land?

Get Russia.

Two cities in Russia, I built one on Volga and another one on the Black see, both in the historical area. And the Middle East: Damask and Jerusalem for sure.
