The unsinkable trireme/uncrashable plane trick is not allowed.

The Food Caravan trick is not allowed.

What are they referring to on the game of the month I have never heard of these tricks or perhaps I have never heard them called this before could someone enlighten me please?

The first one, I've never got to work, because it depends on the version you're playing. It's about that if you move a trireme or airplane until it has 1 move left, then press 'w' (wait), then move all other units you want to move, and at the end of the turn press (IIRC) 'Ctrl-N' ends all units' turns, like when you press 'space' for a unit. If you do this, the trireme or airplane won't crash or sink.

The Food Caravan Trick (FCT) means that you deliver a food caravan (or two) to a city each turn, which will fill the food box of that city, and force it to grow a pop next turn, despite the fact that it doesn't have enough food. It's possible to grow cities to the max sixe (127?) and is used to get more points.
