Hi,
so I after a couple couple of games that went really well (like 15k with continents) I decided to go for a HOF-game (since before I always forgot to save the 1AD turn, stupid me  ). Anyways, now that I'm at the point where I just have to finish milking, I have a few doubts if I should post at all...

First of all, from my previous games I always ended up winning by domination and I was getting annoyed since I couldn't imagine how a player (who like me doesn't have 100 hrs to play every week) could avoid that - well, looking here at Civfanatics and eventually learning about Mapstat solved that, thanks guys for the hint and to Chiefpaco for programming it! Anyways, that got me curious and I also read SirPlebs (extensive) insights into milking. Even though I already knew most of it, of course, I did learn one pretty important thing (constant maptrading as money source!). - So, do you think it would be fair to send in a game even though I used that particular info? That hint helped a lot, but I did use a totally different approach for the rest of the game (playing with Iroquois I took a more militaristic approach, even though I was attacked much earlier than I anticipated and thus had to jump right into the fighting that would last for many many turns. There were other things as well, like research, city placement, etc.)

Second, I won't have many more points that SirPleb. Maybe just a few hundred, if even that. I did have a 2500 lead, but my domination limit is 110 tiles lower, making it impossible to keep my advantage. So, do you think I should still send it in once I'm done?

Also, it took me a LOOONG time to play that game, especially since I'm not in high school anymore and don't have so much free time (and the fact that I'm living with my girlfriend doesn't help, either  ). So playing only for 30min or sometimes even less I have quite a few reloads and I don't want anybody to call me cheater because of it. Better not send in the game at all than having all these hours called a cheap trick.

In addition to that I wonder if I should do it just because ppl might team up against me when I play mp. I just started a PBEM game and I only played with one friend before - meaning I think I suck in mp (I learned that with Civ2, that sp is nothing like mp)!

So, what should I do? Just send it in when I'm done (I hope I finish the last 210 turns relativly quickly)? Or just keep it to myself so nobody would judge me because of it (you see I'm a shy person)???

Anyways, thanks in advance for your insights!

Markus

There's nothing wrong with using other peoples hints and tips to improve your game. If you've followed the rules displayed on the HoF page everything should be fine...
If you don't have the 10 AD save, sent in the save closest to it (like 210 AD or something).
Just send it in. It'll be judged on it's merits and we could use someone who can keep up with Sirpleb (as these kind of superskilled players seem to be extremely rare).

I have to agree with everything with Darkness said, but I just want to emphasize-SEND IT IN! There's a handful of hardcore HOF attempters here hoping to generate more enthusiasm and upsets in the HOF.

Well, it looks like I'm not going to make it anyways. Score is 30462 right now (1752) and I only made 138 points this turn.

I started the game under the assumption that all random maps have the same amount of tiles (since I also didn't know about Mapstat then) :( . So now it I guess I finally have to pay for my false assumption. 4 months of hard work gone.

If it's going to be enough to make the top ten list, send it in anyways. Number two isn't so bad...which level are you on?

Send it in definitely. Don't worry about the reload counts if you were playing by the rules, huge games like these take everyone a lot of play sessions.

JFL has been absent for quite a while now. So you might want to hold your submission until he shows up or someone else is put in charge of the HOF. That would be the only (temperary) reason not to submit IMO.

After one last long session I'm finally done! :D
I finished with 47716 points (Deity), so even a little better than I had hoped for. You can finish five different ways, not perfect (since I had to get rid of all but one nations, plus I didn't build U.N. at the right time anyways).

Since you all seem to agree I should send it in, what should I do now? How will I know when to send it in, or should I just write Thunderfall? Maybe I'll just be here from time to time and check if either JFL is back or there is a new moderator or something (since Thunderfall wrote in the other thread that he will take care of it).

Yeah, normal life - I'm coming!!! Oh, wait, I still have some mp-maps that I always wanted to send in (2p & 4p). The continents are exactly identical, so no unfair starting locations or something...
Jup, that's going to be my next little task. ;)

Thanx for the encouragement, I feel much better about sending it in now.

Oh, just in case anyone is interested... :hmm:

Congratulations Markstar!
It seems that you are number one! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

best regards

Ronald

I wouldn't send it to Thunderfall. I'd just wait and see if JFL reappears or gets appointed a partner. Then send it in...

Superslug is right! TF doesn't mod this forum, only JFL does. Either send it to him, or wait until he gets appointed a partner and then send it in...

Thanks Ronald!!!

Alright, no problem, I will just wait until the "problem" is resolved.

No fears, mate. We're all waiting...

........that Deity score should generate some SERIOUS interest from the top players...............once the HOF springs back to life!? ;)

My suggestion: Send in the game to JFL_Dragon, copy to TF........AND keep a copy of the game (at least until it's posted on HOF!)

Just to let you know, after 5 weeks I finally sent in the savegames. I not only forgot them the weeks I was gone, but also didn't get around writing a detailed log, but I still hope it's alright.
Anyways, I hope this got ppl started again. As for myself, I won't be able to start another attempt for quite a while (even though I think 50k is very much possible), since I get just way to addicted and right now I got plenty of other stuff to do.

Edit: I just realized I submitted the game and selected PTW v1.27, but actually I played it with 1.21. Do you think that's bad? How could I correct it then?

Just pm Aeson (the new HoF mod) about it. Then it shouldn't be a problem...
