Hello, folks. It seems that Ares de Borg's advice is not working regarding the crashing Conquests problem, and it seems I will have to reinstall the game. However, I have 1 MAJOR problem in the reinstallation: I have no second disk for Civilization III: Complete! However, when I first installed Complete, I did it without the second disk, and it works fine. However, if I do try to reinstall without the second disk, I am running a risk of permanently not having Civ3, and I will only be playing CIV from now on (which, for me, is not necessarily bad, but I'll be missing Civ3 a lot if that happens).

Also, if I uninstall the game and then install again, instead of reinstalling, will that work, and will I have everything, or will I need to backup all my files?

you can make an image of your harddisk (google that for instructions) before you reinstall it. I think you're going to need disc 2. (doesn't anyone you know have it??)
So if it goes wrong, you can undo the operation.

Or you buy it cheap from something like ebay.

I think you can choose not to delete the saves on it. I know it does for civ4(thank god i got rid of it) but a cheap copy on ebay would be the safest thing to do for the second disk. The image on the hard drive is a tricky thing to do without the right programs.

Can anyone else please help?

I've had to reinstall it before on my old comp. The second disk is PTW, right? If it is, just copy and paste all of the PTW files to another safe location, and then uninstall it. Once you reinstall it, you can replace the files that you saved. I wouldn't try it unless I was absolutely sure that it would work that way.

The second disk was called "Civilization III Complete-Disk 2", so it could have been anything.

After I finish the opening movie, the screen goes black and I get the Windows crash message. This has been going on since either January or Febuary.

I had it where it didn't even get to the movie and it told me about a problem with the tutorial (I still don't know why), but nothing like that. Are you sure you didn't mess with the title screen, that might do it.

Well no, my crashes were related only to some audio files for units missing or with the wrong names. Nothing like the black screen you describe, sorry
