O MY GOD!!!
the Chinese Empire is big as hell. Great story, too.
BTW, What gov't is China in now?
Anyways, it's a good read.

Just before the Industrial Age hit, I switched China to a Democracy for several reasons. I was fighting a major technology war on top of everything else, so I wanted the research bonus a Democracy gives. Also, since Rails were in the very near future, I wanted the improved workers so I could lay the rails that much faster.

I had intentions of switching to Communism before I went on my major rampage across the other continent, but I forgot, and you will see what happened there shortly.

I have finished this game now, so all I have to do is write it up!:D

Nightfang, great story.

:goodjob:

I am looking forward to read the next installment.

Preparations

Mao now controlled the entire continent. The Mongols, Japanese, Indians, and Koreans were now all part of China, and enjoying the fruits of their labors. A Democracy had been formed, with Mao as the President. Under this form of government, people were happier, research was at an all time high, and productivity was at its peak.

China could not be happier. But, Mao was not completely satisfied.

He looked at the maps, and examined the world affairs.

Carthage
China_Carthage.jpg

Carthage was the weakest empire on the globe. Without any natural sources of iron, coal, or rubber, they were at a decidely huge disadvantage. Mao traded Steam Power and Coal to them, at a tidy profit, so that they may get their empire into a state better suited for conquest. If he allowed Hannibal to rail his own country, then the Chinese forces would be able to utilize them during the coming wars.

They also controlled three island cities, cut off from reinforcements. Since Carthage was several seasons away, taking and holding these cities would be easy. Add to that the idea of forces on his own soil, and Hannibal would be less concerned with his island cities and more concerned for his homeland defenses.

Carthage currently supplied silk to China. If Mao were to go to war with Carthage, he would need to secure those luxuries for himself as soon as possible.

Egypt
China_Egypt.jpg

Cleo had done a good job of becoming a major power on her continent, though she was foolish enough to start a war with China at the end of the War of Korean Elimination. Chinese forces slaughted the invading Egyptian forces without trouble, and waited for Cleo to be ready for peace. Mao was not about to try to fight the war just yet, especially since he did not even have a beachhead on the other land just yet.

Egypt would be difficult, since they had many strategic resources at their disposal. Examination revealed they did not have rubber, which would be an advantage for the Chinese. Lack of rubber would make it hard for Egypt to build forces that would be comparable to China's

Egypt currently supplied dye to China. Their sources of dye was deep in the heart of their empire, so securing that resource quickly would be very difficult. China would have to live without dyed clothing for a little while when war broke out there.

Cleo agreed to peace pretty quickly once she realized that getting forces to Chia would be time consuming and difficult, as well as fruitless, since her forces were very weak compared to China's.

Mao traded Steam Power to Egypt for the same reason he traded it to Carthage, for ease of moving his own troops in the future.

Rome
China_Rome.jpg

Rome would be very difficult. Though they were small, Rome had the only source of Rubber on that continent, and Mao was fairly certain he would use it to its full potential. The Roman armies were historically tough, but with them on equal footing with the Chinese, they would be very difficult. Mao knew he would have to proceed with caution.

Rome supplied gems to China. The sources of these gems were near the Roman east coast, so if he were to outright invade Rome, he would make the east one of his beachheads, to secure those gems at all costs.

Rome also benefitted from the invention of Steam Power, and was railing their country. Mao enjoyed the profits from this trade, and knew that the time would come where Chinese troops would move across Roman rails...

----------

Mao's plan was simple. Move infantry and cavalry across the ocean and position them just outside Carthage. The three island cities would fall quickly, and then his troops positioned in the waters outside of mainland Carthage would invade and take over the rest of Carthiginian lands. From there, he would sweep south, taking Egypt and Rome all in one swift motion.

Fate, however, made this take a different path than Mao anticipated...

Establishing Control

Mao had been preparing for this war for a long time. Galleons sat at the ready, loaded with infantry and cavalry. Four divisons of cavalry waited outside of each island city. When the word came, they would land and take those cities. Off the eastern and western coasts of mainland Carthage, even more divisions of cavalry and infantry waited for the word to invade.

All trade agreements with Carthage came to a close. Mao made no move to renew them, which left Hannibal in an uneasy state of mind. He signed a protection pact with Rome, hoping that would stave off the coming war with China.

Having recently discovered Combustion, Mao was able to build transport ships that could move even more soldiers. He quickly commissioned several of these ships, and began moving huge numbers of troops into position.

Mao's recently built Intelligence Agency was ready for him to use. He sent spy after spy into Carthage, each one caught and killed by Hannibal. Their leader became more and more furious with each failed operation, but would never declare war. Mao tried this for several seasons, but soon grew weary of the sport, as the attempts had drained his treasury a little more than he would have liked.

Mao, ready for war, sent a declaration to Hannibal, and signaled his forces to invade.

At the end of the following season, six cities had been captured, and one other had been razed. The capture of the mainland cities had been costly to China, and the Roman invaders from the south because of the protection pact made life a little more difficult for Mao.

Once Mao had control of those three mainland cities, he changed gears, and fought to keep them and nothing else. Another plan had formed in his mind. He was now producing tanks, machines of serious destruction, and was shipping them to Carthage on transports. The secrets of Flight had just been discovered, and that provided a new means of getting troops to the front.

As soon as he could, Mao made peace with Carthage, with a tidy sum of payment and a right of passage for the peace treaty. Also, he made peace with Rome, without any need for payment.

Gaining quick control of the three mainland cities, Mao rushed the completion of temples, libraries, and airports. Over on mainland China, he started airports in all of his major cities, those around Beijing and Karakorum, his palace and forbidden palace, respectively. Due to the factories in each city, and the Hoover Dam giving its benefits to the entire empire, the airports were completed quickly.

It was not long before legions of tanks, five to ten divisions per season, were flying over to the Chinese cities on the other continent...

The Arrogance of Rome

Mao lined the border between him and Egypt with tanks. His plan was to obliterate Carthage, and make it difficult for Egpytian and Roman settlers to try to make new homes on the abandoned lands. Meanwhile, his cities were bursting at the seams with tanks and soldiers.

The entire world knew what was at hand, and they had everything to lose. Mao knew this would be a deadly fight to the end, with the victor controlling everything.

As Mao was preparing to take over Carthage once the peace agreement had ended, something else would happen to change the fate of China.

Caesar contacted Mao, and demanded he turn over the secrets of Motorized Transportation.

Amused, Mao told Caesar to go soak his head. In response, Rome declared war immediately, and attacked the tank line along the Chinese-Egyptian border. Rome's losses on that line of tanks were massive.

Mao secure a right of passage with Egypt immediately. Not entirely trusting Cleo to stay out of the war, he also drew them into the war against Rome, but he had to give Egypt supplies of Rubber in return. This ensured that at least he would be safe while crossing through their lands.

Twenty-eight divisions of tanks, divided into three legions, invaded Rome. Immediately, three cities fell. Egypt sent waves of obsolete units at Roman cities, only to fall at the gates. Chinese forces were cutting a path of destruction across Rome, and soon their capital fell. Mao razed every city in his path, leaving no Roman cities intact.

Mao became furious with Cleo, though, as on three separate occasions, his forces would severely weaken the defenses on a Roman city, and Cleo's units would roll in and take the city, and keep it for themselves. Mao vowed that Cleo would pay for this.

Mao secured the sources of Rubber, Gems, and various other resources in the former Roman lands. Rome had been reduced to one city, Lugdunum, on an island in the southern seas. Battleships and transports were en route there, and soon, Rome was completely destroyed, Caesar deciding to enter into retirement and leave the arena of world affairs.

Mao, steaming with Cleo, positioned his forces outside of Egyptian cities, and soon began the final campaign...

The Rape of Egypt

Mao looked over the deployment of the troops. Nearly every Egyptian city had divisions of infantry and tanks outside of it. His aircraft were delivering 8 to 12 division of tanks every season. His numbers were swelling, and he was growing impatient.

Back in China, his people were in an uproar over the constant state of warfare. The Roman War had reduced production in every city, and no amount of resources would satisfy them.

He could have encouraged a new government, but he did not have time. Egypt was making tanks, and soon would be a terror in their own right.

He knew he had to act, and do it quickly.

Mao contacted Cleo.

"Miss Cleo, I am certain you are aware that we are unhappy with your actions during the previous war. We were about to claim Veii for China, and you took it instead. You did the same to two other Roman cities. Hand over Veii, and we will forget about the other cities and put this behind us."

Cleo responded. "Never will we give into your demands. We are currently under a right of passage agreement, Mao. If you make any sudden actions against Egypt, the entire world will finally see you as you truely are - an untrustworthy warmongering fool."

Mao nodded. "See you in Hell, Cleo. Make amends to whatever gods you worship, for you will be joining them soon."

Mao cut off the line, and made his plans. :hammer:

Just before he made the move, he ordered several things. First, he began the construction of the United Nations in Beijing. His advisors laughed, telling him that no one would ever elect him Secretary General. After executing them and hiring new advisors, who looked a lot like his old ones, he explained to them that if he controlled the UN, he controlled the vote.

Mao then sold the technology of Fission to Hannibal and Cleo. From Cleo, he turned down regular payments, and merely took all her treasury. Each nation began the UN as well, though Mao knew they would never get to finish it.

In the year 1776AD, Mao attacked an unsuspecting Egypt, abusing the right of passage they were so dearly holding onto.

Cleo put up a hell of a fight, though, Mao gave her that. For being unprepared for the war, Egypt fought like the gods were on their side. It took nearly everything Mao had to take her cities, and the war dragged out over 18 years.

in 1780AD, China went into a revolution, finally weary of all the wars and conflicts. All production stopped, but finally, the Chinese people were happy. By 1792AD, they asked Mao to chose a new government. Mao chose Communism. His people never suffered from war weariness again, and everyone was happy. All cities became productive, not just the older cities. Mao was named Chairman of the Communist party in China.

In 1796AD, Egypt fell. Cleo was captured, and returned to Beijing for punishment. She stood trail in the Communist courts, and was sentenced for her crimes against China, past and present. Her sentence, execution by hanging...

Mao looked north, and saw Hannibal, shaking in his boots.

Conquest at hand, Mao looked over his plans...

The War to End All Wars
Mao examined the facts. He still had a right of passage with Carthage. Hannibal had no iron, no rubber, and no oil. He only controlled seven cities in his main empire, but they were all huge metropolis sized cities. They would be extremely difficult to take.

Due to the expanding borders on the three cities China had, Hannibal no longer had his precious silks.

Mao canceled all trade agreements, leaving only the right of passage in place.

During the Rape of Egypt, Hannibal had sent settlers into the empty lands and had established five new cities on those frontier lands.

Using tactics similar to the war with Egypt, Mao positioned all his forces near Carthiginian cities. Mao then contacted Hannibal.

"Hannibal, my old friend. Join the Chinese empire, and I will give you land and gold to control for me. Our people will welcome you freely, and you will live out the rest of your life in peace and happiness."

Hannibal's reply was simple. "I would rather die a Carthiginian than live in China."

Mao nodded. "I understand, and if the roles were reversed, I would be the same. Good luck to you, Hannibal."

In 1798AD, China attacked Carthage. Their five frontier cities were captured without trouble, and each was burned to the ground. Carthiginian slaves were sent to the most dangerous terrain and put to work building more colonies, roads, and rails.

Three core cities in Carthage were immediately captured and razed. Slaves from those cities were sent to work in the coal and iron mines in old Egypt and Rome.

In 1804AD, Hannibal had retreated to Utica, his last stand against the rampaging forces of the Chinese. Mao personally went to the battlefield and directed his troops in the final battle.

Thirty divisions of tanks assaulted Utica, and by the end of the year, the city lie in ruin.

Mao entered Utica uncontested. He entered the palace, and found Hannibal there, sitting in his throne.

"So Mao, you have finally done it. The entire world has been crushed under your boot. How do you feel?"

Mao sighed. "Hannibal, you and I are fortunate to have lived as long as we have. Almost six thousand years is a long time to live for anyone. Our people have all prospered, through good times and bad. Of all the rivals I had on this world, you were smart, and tried to exist with me in peace, despite that silly agreement you had with Wang Kon so long ago."

"How do I feel?" he asked outloud, restating Hannibal's original question. "I feel old."

Hannibal stood and moved away from his throne. "I believe this belongs to you, now," he said, indicating the throne.

Mao smiled. "No, it is still yours, though you no longer rule from it. My throne is back in China."

"What will you do with me, Mao?"

"Tell me, Hannibal, do you agree to bend your knee to me? Will you recognize my right to rule?"

Hannibal dropped to one knee. "Mao, I swear allegiance to you and to China. Carthage is no more, but as long as you will allow our culture to be remembered in the proper light, then I will be your willing servant."

Mao nodded, smiling. "Rise my friend. Carthage will be remembered for its culture, and its adherance to its ideals and principles."

Hannibal rose, and smiled back to Mao. "What will you have me do, now?"

Mao walked over to Hannibal. He put his arm around the retired leader's shoulders and made him walk with him.

"My scientists are certain we can travel beyond this world, and into space. They are working on technologies that will put us in orbit, and eventually, another planet. I will need someone to leader the new space program, and eventually, represent Chinese interests on Alpha Centarui..."

Mao and Hannibal walked out of the throne room, and toward their future...

"By the way, do you think you can shave off that awfully stupid looking beard? And maybe grow some hair on your head again?"

The End

Post Game Analysis

End Date - 1806AD
Victory Type - Conquest
Final Score - 3303 points (my best outing at Regent yet! :goodjob: )
Game Time - 25 hours, 15 minutes, 53 seconds

I think it is definately time for me to move up to Monarch. This game, while still challenging in places, was still easy, overall.

My first war with the Mongols was unexpected, though I was prepared for it since I was gearing up to invade him. He had sources of iron and horses which I needed desperately if I was going to make any early wars toward my goal. The lack of those resources in my own territory probably set me back a bit, since I could not do an all out assault and elimination of Mongolia.

Never before had I played a game where everyone was so aggressive with me, even before I went on the major warpath to get all my continent under control. What also amazed me was the lack of AI wars. I figured Egypt, Rome, and Carthage would eventually go at it, but they never did. Even on my own continent, when it was still populated with Korea, Japan, and India, they never went to war with each other.

I guess they were all too concerned with the Chinese hordes!

I find it amusing that Rome demanded a tech off of me, when that very same technology was the one that helped put them into oblivion, Motorized Transportation. I used the tanks they so coveted to destroy them, completely.

I hardly ever use ROP Rape, as I find it despicable. But, this time, in the spirit of conquest, I knew it was the way to go. When I was done, there would be no one left to trade with, anyway, so who cares what they think? They were all pretty furious with me, anyway, since I was destroying everything and everyone in my path. Besides, I was getting impatient, and GOTM17 Carthage is sitting out there ready to play.

I am normally a builder, not a warmonger, so I learned a lot about waging clean, effective, short term wars in this game. In the past, I could never wage a fast war, and never had the troops to carry it further. This time, I concentrated on military and the technologies to further my armies, with non-military infrastructure a second thought.

I also have to question my decision to enter into Democracy. I did not have Communism yet, and I will still in Monarchy, so could have waited. Come to think of it, once I had made the decision and did the switch, I was asking myself why I did it. Universal Suffrage did me no good, either. My people were PISSED under Democracy.

I hope everyone who read this enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. When I do another story in the future (and there will be others:D) I will include more screenshots of my progress.

not a great story i died :(.

it was an amzing the best story ive read that was based on a real game feel free to write more games in this style :)

Actually, in the last wars with Rome, Egypt, and Carthage, I had a combined total of ten great leaders emerge, one of which was Ancient Grudge. AG returned and lead the final assault on Utica with four divisions of tanks.

I lost track of all my leaders, so I stopped listing them out. Do not worry, AG survived the assault and was given honors for his bravery, courage, and sense of honor.

Great story!!! but why did yo still have galleons and cavalry in 1470AD?? shouldnt you of had MA's by that time and transports by that time?
