Top 5 Favourite Games?

Wow another person who likes Championship Manager! Yey!

I just love managing Cheltenham and seeing how close to the premiership I can get. My best game though, was when Grantham got promoted to the conference and I had my one and only chance to manage them. We got to division 2 but then the game had an error :(

Here's my list.

1. Civilization II
2. Champ Manger 9798
3. Broken Sword
4. Final Fantasy VII
5. Curse of Monkey Island

The best 5 games in the world (that I own anyway...)

We already have several top games threads so why can't we all turn this thread into a CM thread?

CM thread?

CM = Championship manager thread...Its a management game where you manage a football club and play all the matches, buy and sell players and win all the trophies...Its a great game once you start playing it although it can sound quite boring at first.

sound quite boring at first.
Yeah I once tried explaining it to one of my friends who hadn't played it and they just looked at me as if I was mad. Anyway, what is the highest you have gotten in the hall of fame?

Not sure in the hall of fame...I have had the top reputation before but I don't think I've ever had the highest score.

In my latest game, I'm 9th in Division two with Cheltenham, which is quite an achievement because I am supposed to be battling bravely against relegation.

CM - the game I've played more than any other! My wife claims it's not real, but we know different, right guys?
I've won the FA cup with Altrincham, got Torquay into the Pemiership, stuff like that. I don't count stuff like playing as Real Madrid manager - start the season with 80 million quid, oh, I'll have Totti, Cannavaro and Nesta, get Ronaldinho the season after - not too difficult if you've got half an idea about how to play footy and train people properly!
Wonderful game!

Ronaldinho is a great player and I always try to buy him if I am managing a top club but at the moment I am managing Cheltenham.

Oh, I forgot, I got the Republic of Ireland to the World Cup Final playing long ball, kick-and-run tactics with dirty tackling, and eliminating France and Italy along the way. The dream collapsed when, on what should have been the proudest day in Eire's football history, Brazil thrashed us 6-0. That hurt!
"at the moment I am managing Cheltenham" - Well, you never know. I've seen Ronaldo sign for Stockport once, so anything's possible.

One of the weirdest things in my current game is that Gillingham are in the premiership...and they are doing well.

Wow, finally some people who like football management games. :goodjob:

I never played CM, but there are several really great manager games here in Germany who unfortunately usually don't get published abroad. The best in my eyes is a series called "Anstoss", some of their programmers joined EA to program the "EA Fußballmanager 2002", which is maybe even a little bit better than Anstoss 3.
Why am I saying all this?
Well the guys are working on the 2003 version now (in the "good" old EA habit of publishing a new version every year) and that one should be out internationally.
I don't know how good CM is, but you should take a look at the other one too, even though it's from EA. ;)

You think so?
Considering they are working on it for almost ten years now, the way they simulate football in FIFA is still quite poor.
But I'm more annoyed with them publishing a new one (of all their sports games) every year. These versions are usually not much more than a weak update and they often even remove some features of the predecessor.
Besides, is it so hard to get proper statistics in a football game?

(Sorry for going way off topic...)

My list:

1. Civilization (series)
2. Master of Orion (also series)
3. Operation Flashpoint
4. Anstoss (another series)
5. (Formula One) Grand Prix (guess...)

Uh-oh! Never antagonise a President!
My top 5 games:
1. The Championship Manager Series
2. Mario 64
3. Zelda 64
4. Daggerfall
5. Diablo

Hitro:
EA sports, you're right, FIFA's ok but not great. When I was a games tester 8 or 9 years ago, I had to test the UK version of FIFA on the Amiga (and Jungle Strike). They do tend to put the updates out just for the sake of it. But 'Tiger Woods' golf and 'SSX' for PS2, Pebble Beach on the SNES, 'John Madden's' on whatever format, the NBA games, the desert/jungle strike games....can't really argue with that.
